  • Since when were they .50(short and stupid)

Okay I remember candy bars once being .95 cents but not .50.A customer came in and bitch when she found out that 1.00 wouldn't be enough to get two candy bars.....
At a store in a student union. This isn't a dollar tree/dollar general. And if we did sell them 2 for a 1.00 we would lose .95cents and make a profit of only 5 cents.

They've definitely gone up in the last year or two. The grocery and drug stores used to put them on sale at 3 for $1, but that's probably been almost a year ago since that happened.

hell even the navy vending machines stopped doing ¢50 per candy bar several years ago. The soda machines are still set at that (except when they buy soda in austrailia - then it's ¢75/soda).

and those prices are that low only because mwr is only allowed to get a specific % profit & nothing more past that.

real stores obviously would be total failures if they weren't allowed to make a profit

I'm only 35 and I can certainly remember when candy was 59 cents or the "2/$1.00" deal. And really, it hasn't been all that long ago, maybe 5 years. But in any kind of store like you mentioned, student union, everything is going to be somewhat higher.

I was going to say the same thing but I'm still only 26...27 in 17 days. I know in some gas stations around here you can still get the 2/1.00 deal and when it's really good in some of the grocery stores the 3/1.00 deal. But that one has gotten really rare now-a-days.

Mom of course ups you all...she remember big candy bars for a penny.

that's the only reason people open stores in the first place

I remember when you could get a candy bar for 25 cents. This was way back in the 1970's. Get on the way-back-machine & go get me 4 bars for a buck...lol.

I remember buying a piece of beef jerky for 25 cents (60s/70s). Pixy sticks were a few cents each. Gumballs were still a penny. Comic books were 25 cents. I was shocked when the price went up to 50 cents. Now they're $2.99 or $3.99. I usually wait for the books to come out.

Wow, I feel really old. Thanks. Mumble. Darn kids. Get the hell off my lawn. Back in my day. Crap, sorry, I'll stop now.

This is going to date me considerably, but I remember being a kid rummaging through the seat in the family car in search of quarters to get a 'glass' bottle of pop and candy bar from the vending machine at the gas station (pre convenient store style) down the hill from my house.

At the grocery store where I work, candy bars regularly went on sale for 3/$1.00 sometimes even 4/$1.00 as recently as a year/year and a half ago. Now they're pushing $1.00 each.

Heck, I'm old enough to remember .15 candy bars, .12 comic books, .33 a gallon gas and $1999.00 cars (VW Bug).

                          Dang, I'm old.
