  • Tonite was the night of suck

almost every customer i encountered was a complete ass

    Its the law!!eleventy!!

my coworker ended up ringing up this little precious gem of a lady. she had 2 bags of tostitos chips. and she said they didn't ring up right, and that they should be free, because its the law. turns out it was last weeks sale sign, a sale 2/$4.00, so we would normally just modify them to that price. and that's what we told her. she wouldn't have any of that. she was getting mad saying how it was the law that she gets them free, that they were a commodity, and stupid sc behind her was agreeing.

first off...tostitos aren't a commodity. and you only get ONE free if its is advertised one price and it rings incorrectly. this woman had such a nasty nasty attitude i was ready to jump the counter and strangle her. all my cw's agreed she was a total biotch. she settled for the 2/$4.00 price

they said i could use it
i ring up this lady and she has some coupons (there were tons of coupons today) and the first one i scan says its already been redeemed on march 9. so i tell her its already been used. but of course im wrong, she just printed it today. riiiight. you probably printed multiples of them because you're cheap...it was an online coupon. next one i scanned. not valid for card. great. and just because i didn't want to fight or anything i just punch them in manually. to save myself the grief. then her total is around 9 bucks. she hands me a 9.99 coupon...that expired in December. yes folks December. now normally if it is a store coupon and its a few days expired we will still take it. but not December expired. i told her i could not take it. she tells me that a manager or someone told her it was ok. (who really? whos that stupid) and its not like she hasn't been there since December since she had other coupons that printed since then. i call my cw who's a supervisor (because my answer is never good enough) and she tells the sc the same thing. the customer kept it...(why?) and gave me more coupons, one that expired about a week ago, then another for more off. so instead of getting it for free, you had to pay a whole whopping 2 bucks.

there were lots more, everyone wanted stuff for free or found something to complain about. left all us workers peeved.

i wasn't happy because i had to empty the outside garbage's and one of the bags ripped and i had to put everything in the dumpster by hand. its really disgusting what people put in our garbage's

That's what we do, too. Honor the wrong price and then fix it so it doesn't happen again. However, some people have heard about this other policy (it's either outdated or just never mentioned) that if anything scans wrong you get two of them for free. I've even had a few quote me the policy using it's full title.

I consider that last one to mean the person is a borderline scammer who only got the item because they saw an expired sale tag and wanted something for free.

The worst was a woman who got about a dozen items on the same outdated tag and then threw a half-hour fit when neither of the cashiers on duty (it was 11:00 at night) would give her the whole stack for free because we'd never heard of this policy before. She swore she was a former employee and that's how it worked, demanded we tell her our names, took them down, and told us she'd have us fired for her poor treatment.

I think I posted that story once before, though. Last year. And I'm still there.

i was surprised she didn't threaten to complain about us.

really if it was this weeks sale, she'd only get one free :P

Some of those policies are just annoying. I know they're for the consumer and all, but sheesh. It's not helping consumers, it's promoting scammers and cheapskates.

Re: online coupons. Your computers tell you if it's been used before . Is this when it's used at your particular store or anyplace ever? Will the manufacturers still honor it? Cause...well....I err...know somone who's used "multiples" before.

Our big thing now is watching out for fraudulent coupons. I don't know where they come from, but people are starting to show up with these coupons labeled "Manufacturer Coupon / No Expiration Date." They're always for one free item - generally $5 and up - or some amount off the grocery total - usually $15-$20 - and all look pretty much the same.

They're fairly well-crafted, but they trigger flags in our system and won't scan.

I had one today for a $5.99 roll of aluminum foil.

its a store online coupon. and if its been used it says

                "coupon already redeemed on <date>"

im assuming its chain wide. and i wouldn't doubt for a second this person did multiples, all she had was coupon after coupon after coupon

Our store got a notice about coupons for the Alli weight-loss drug. The pills can cost $40-$60 and the coupon was for a FREE box. Thing is, the manufacturer mailed less than a hundred of these coupons and in the first month alone, over 1500 were redeemed I never saw one, but they were apparently very good forgeries on special paper and everything. The manufacturer stopped honoring the coupons for obvious reasons, so a company-wide scam-alert went out.

That's a dumb policy, why would you even get one item free if it scans wrong? It's not like the shock of a wrong price is so great the store has to pay her non-material damages. Giving the item for the price that is advertised instead of the one in the computer seems logical, anything beyond that doesn't.
