At my store (actually in the entire company) they have a HUGE push towards SCO. We're supposed to stand at the front of the SCO area and pull customers into that area. Some customers flat out refuse to come near SCO, even when you tell them you will do it for them. I refuse to push people. I ask them if they'd like to step over. If they say no, I leave them alone. I'm not going to aggrevate the customer by being pushy and trying to force it on them. If they'd rather wait in line to check out with a 'real' person, I let them.
My best friend made me go with her to Walmart at midnight when Twilight was released. I sat there for 2 hours while she stood in line. Then after that we STILL had to drive 45 minutes to get home (closest 24 hr wally world).
She's still on my hit list. And I've never seen the movie, but I already despise it.

Reason: 'cause
Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.
I'm not inviting anyone anymore. I'd rather do not invite and get chewed out by you, than "inviting" and getting chewed out by you and the customers (about how the hate these things so much).
Isn't it wonderful how corporate comes up with this crap? And then you have to hit some whacked out number, which is, interestingly enough, reached by annoying the crap out of every customer.
Corporate mandated crazy. That's what that is.
1129. I will refrain from casting Dimension Jump and Magnificent Mansion on every police box we pass.

Exactly!! That's what I've been saying!! I mean I understand using the handheld and being out away from the podium and helping the customers. But pushing people over here. No I refuse. I won't do it! You can't make me!!!!
I swear if I have to hear about one more conference call/email about this I'm gonna switch back over to the Starbucks we have in the store. I'm getting tired of this crap.

And of course until about 10, it was dead. I had no customers, and was bored. So I worked on the cigarettes. Well I get chewed out for doing the cigs. Why? Because I need to be out in front grabbing customers from the "lines" to SCO to get our utilization scores up (which the goal has been upped to 46.7%). Uh hello it was dead! What customers?! I told her this and she just says I need to stay over there cause we are only one of 2 stores in the district that haven't made the goal yet (even though we did last week).
So they chewed you out for...
...finding work to do?
I'd refuse to pull customers into the SCO after that too. If the bosses going to yell at you, next time do something worth being yelled at about. Goof off during your down time instead of finding work.
I bet the pressure to "boost" the utilization rate is coming down from the corporate executive who's going to get fired when his superiors find out that his idea to install SCOs was a complete failure. He's desperately pushing the store managers to increase the rate or else and they're desperately pushing you guys to avoid that or else.
The fact the customers don't like them can't be the corporate executive's fault. It must be your fault for not MAKING customers like them.
Sit tight and wait it out. That's all you can do when corporate goes insane.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.
