  • Visitor Parking is reserved; sucky customers

Visitor Parking has been reserved for events since Monday. Luckily the full sign has been on when I get to work.

Female staff member with an attitude: fsm
    me: me

fsm: *drives up to the booth & rolls down her window* "I want to park." *already has an attitude*
me: "I'm sorry, but the garage is reserved today & the parking spots are limited to only people on the event list."
fsm *still with an attitude* "I work here. I cannot park?"
me: "I'm sorry, I understand what you are saying, but anyone not on the event list has to find other parking"
fsm: "So staff members have to park at the staff lots?"
    me: "yes"
fsm: "So what is the garage reserved for?"
me: "It is reserved for events"
fsm "Yeah...& when I want to park it is reserved"
    me: ...
fsm: "Well...every time the garage reserved, I walk through the garage & see open spots"
me: "I'm sorry, but you will have to complain to the Parking office about that"
fsm: "Whatever" *still has an attitude*
    She leaves

    Vague information guy:

He drives up to the booth, & tells me he is here for a health fair. I do not see anything on the event list stating health fair. I see a reservation for the Community Involvement day & reservations for some small events. The Community Involvement day is the big event. I ask him which dept. is having the event. He does not know. I ask him where is the event list being held. He tells me in some room in the main bldg. I ask him if he has the name of a contact person at the university. He does not. He calls his co-worker, who according to him will be arriving later, & asks her if she has any specific information. She does not. So I call "Kim", who makes the event list & I ask her if the health fair is the same as the Community Involvement day. She asks me if he has a name of a contact person. So I ask him, & he says "the hospital district". I get back to "Kim", & she tells me she cannot work with the information he gave me. So I send him to campus police since I cannot help him. I do not know if they can though.

Vague information guy's co-worker with an attitude:

    co-worker with an attitude: cwwa
    me: me
cwwa: *drives up to the booth window* "I'm here for the health fair"
me: "I'm sorry, but I am not aware of a health fair being held at this university & my manager is not either. Do you have the name of a contact person working at this university?"
cwwa: "You need to call your manager & tell her to call someone. It is being held here. My co-worker had a hard time parking. No, I do not have the name of a contact person"
*OK, calm down. Sorry, but with the vague information I was given by your co-worker, I was not able to help him.*
So I call "Kim" & explain the situation to her. She asks me if I could find out the name of a contact person at the university over the health fair.
me: "I'm sorry, but my manager asked me if you have the name of a contact person at the university over the event."
cwwa: "Didn't I just tell you I do not have that information. It is being held in room A350"
I get back to "Kim" & she tells me she is attending the Community Involvement day.
I let the guest know the name of the event, Community Involvement Day. She suddenly becomes calmer & no longer has an attitude. She parks in the garage.

If they were guests at the event for which the garage is reserved, wouldn't their names be on the event list? Or do they just have to mention the name of the event?
"I don't have to be petty. The Universe does that for me."

Anyone on the event list either has to tell me their name (if a list of names is included for the event) or the name of the event they are here for. Since the vague information guy & his co-worker did not tell me "community involvement day", it was difficult to help them. I cannot ask the guest what they are here for. The guest has to tell me what they are here for.
