When I worked at places with spineless managers, I began not to care because I felt like I was not being backed up. I left those jobs when another came available. I feel for you.
Exactly. When the managers don't uphold policy, eventually the employees stop trying.

I did have one manager who would at least make sure the customer was aware that the employee was correct and that he was making an exception, so I didn't feel like a complete idiot like when other managers would just wave it off and say "just do it."

Nah, but he/she was clearly kissing something else.

You forgot "tragic result of a horribly misaimed handjob."
I always wanted to see one of those in action, just to see how that worked.

Damn, I don't know who's worse, the customer or your manager for sucking up to him like that. If it was me, I would have told him to shove that dog up his ass and beat it. Maybe not in those words, but I think you know what I mean.

I could point you to some porns that would adequately illustrate the idea......

Another ruined vacation? Damn Dave, you're on a roll! I'd love to see your "ruined vacation" tally scratched next to the phone

You have GOT to start immediately handing over every request/demand from a guest for something prohibited or outside what is authorized to that jellyfish you call a manager. Let the manager give in and let yourself get away from the stress of trying to enforce company rules. It is not worth it to your mental health. Tell the manager that you know s/he always gives the guest whatever the guest wants anyway, so you do not want the guest to feel any "distress" from you attempting to follow the rules.
Nope, wouldn't work. The (mis)manager would promptly whine that Dave wasn't showing enough initiative, or he's not doing his job or some other horse-hockey. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Ok so a guest was reported to have a dog in his rental property
Shame on you Dave! How dare you call the man's wife a dog!

JK... but seriously... your manager needs to grow a spine

I think if we compare the "i ruined christmas" tally to Dave's tally of "ruining vacations for EWs"... Dave would win. wish he'd get better customers

I don't get it... There are THOUSANDS of places that are pet-friendly rentals. Why would some EW rent a place that specifically prohibits pets, and sneak in a dog? Our family rents with a company with a list of beach houses. Some of their homes accept pets and some do not, so we only check availability on the homes that will let us have our pets. It would ruin our vacation to worry that someone was going to "catch" us with pets in the house. What a moron!
Also, we have five small-breed dogs in the whole family, and have always been accepted because we are honest about them.

I think the answer lies in the highlighted phrase.......

There are certain words that come to my mind regarding your manager.
                      You missed gutless and linguini-spined.
Seriously though, I hope that property owner is allergic and we'll see how long VRS's manager survivies in that industry. Nothing like an unwinnable lawsuit to weed out the idiots.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

You might want to fire your proofreader. I did say spineless (which is more severe than linguini-spined) and I absolutely did not miss gutless. Check for yourself.

ew says it all; they had other choices, but passed on them, signed the contract and then still got their way? manager needs to be fired and higher ups need to be notified that rules aren't being followed (lawsuits, anyone) which can result in owners seeking damages or other legal compensation.

the manager isn't just spineless, he/she is in a universe of severe stupid, population, one.
                          look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

Based upon my work experience combined with stories I've heard from my friends and colleagues AND stories I've read on here, I would say the population of that universe is significantly larger than one.

Any way you can let the owner know your manager is letting people bring dogs onto their property?

ah, dear jester, there's infinite realms/universes, and all these unique managers have their very own universe of ultrastupid to play with, unfortunately, it encompasses the worksite of the poster.
