I have actually heard alot of stories about these type of situations...basically one can receive upwards of a million dollors if proven that there were not enough warning signs posted. In some cases if there were signs but no verbal warning then a person injured could again win. So basically one would have to cover there asses pretty good if they do not need a lawsuit on their hands. Most places suggest that at least two signs are posted and two employees are at the sceen when an area is taped off. This ensures that an employees version of the event is able to be verified.
It is idiocy like those cases that causes us as a society to have to print anti-drowning labels on water buckets.

you think that's bad, you should hear the things that people complained about during the passenger lifeboat drill

"this is so stupid! why do we have to do this shit? I paid good money for this cruise! why can't we use the elevators?"

then during the crew drill they'd get all snotty too, you'd think they never saw titanic or at least missed the message
The scary part is: some of the passengers behaved in similar fashion while the Titanic was sinking.

I was putting out Pool Cues a few days ago and I was looking at them and thought about interesting warning messages to have on them.

Warning, Inserting this into your rectum may cause serious injury or death
        Warning, For external use only.
        Warning, Not for pole vaulting

The I looked at the shipping bag it came in and saw, "Warning, this bag is not a toy."

These are the same people that get mad at me when I won't run their credit over the phone. Or can't understand why I would want them to verify the last four of the social to get into their account.
Gah, I hate it when people ask me that, and then get all huffy when I won't. Look people, it's to keep people from stealing your credit card and then using it in ways that cannot be verified, thus being able to use it for longer. It seems like it's always for vicodin prescriptions, too...
I will grant, there's a few little old ladies that I WILL do it for, because I know that sometimes they're housebound and will send a cab up to get their medicines. That, and they fill with us all the time. Those are the ONLY people I'll do it for, though.

The other thing that annoys the living hell out of me is when people whine and moan about having to go talk to the pharmacist about a med. 9 times out of 10, the pharmacist will tell them a little tidbit about their medicine that makes them go "Oooh..I didn't know that!". Gee...and you would have taken it incorrectly if I'd let you go, poopface. We've caught a few mistakes from the doctors' offices too during consultation. People don't get that we're trying to make sure that everything goes smoothly with the chemical they're about to apply to themselves or injest. We're not trying to inconvenience them.

Having been on three cruises, and definitely got the point of "Titanic," I don't mind the lifeboat drill. What I DO mind is that the bloody photographers dog your every step during the cruise, including during the lifeboat drill! That doesn't seem that it should be legal.

One summer in high school, I worked at a stable near my parents' house. My job duties included taking people out for trail rides. We had a few common-sense safety rules, such as requiring that customers wear long pants, boots with a bit of a heel (so their feet wouldn't slip through the stirrup), and riding helmets.

You'd think that it'd be a simple choice to wear the helmet instead of risk severe injury or death in the event of a fall, wouldn't you? Not for these folks. Day in and day out, it was the same bit of nonsense...
..."But it'll mess up my hair!"
..."I'm a *good* rider. I'm *not* gonna fall off! I don't need this helmet!" (Those were the ones who usually wound up just kind of sliding off one side of the horse as we trundled along through the woods.)
..."What, don't you trust the horse not to hurt me?" It's not a matter of whether I trust the horse, dumbo. Horses can do unpredictable stupid things. It's just part of their nature.
..."But it looks stupid!" Better to look stupid than be brain-damaged, isn't it?

Doesn't anyone understand why these morons do things like this? It's because they want to get hurt, thereby making them rich beyond the dreams of avarice when they file that lawsuit. That's where security camera come into play!

My point exactly. Hasn't anyone seen the Court TV videos or watched shows like "20/20"? They have had plenty of people who saw a golden opportunity to "win it big", so they stage an accident right where it tells these people to stay away. Thank God for surveillance cameras!

That's because society *tolerates* stupidity. Nobody has the balls to say "look you fucking idiot..." They're all too busy fawning over idiots like Paris, or Britney, or whoever the latest dumbass is. Maybe if stupidity wasn't so damn lucrative, it would lose some of its "appeal."

Since I deal with stupidity on a daily basis (driving to work seems to bring out all the idiots...especially in bad weather!), I have a *very* low tolerance for it. In fact, when exposed to it, I'm afraid of catching it!

That's why I love to read the "hate mail" sections of certain car and bike sites...places where the owners don't hesitate to rip into stupid people. Most times, if you can present your argument in a logical, thought-out manner, the site owners will reply in kind. However, you start ranting like a dumbass, and they'll usually rip you apart. (Read the Harley letters over on www.goingfaster.com --some of them are hilarious!)

A friend of mine told me a story about while he was working at an etching place, where they - among other high powered machinery - had a water cutter to cut steel. Apparently, despite the numerous safeties, warnings, and training, a co-worker of his put HIS FINGER IN THE STREAM while it was going. The guy pretty much instantly lost the tip of his finger, and decided to file a claim.

The investigator came and talked to the bossman and tried to get him to admit that the shop's safety standards were insufficient. The bossman took a pair of scissors and started opening and closing them really quickly, saying "Come on, stick your finger in there! Come on! Do it! It'll be fine!"
The investigator replied "Are you crazy? I could lose my finger!"
Bossman threw the scissors down on the desk and said "Exactly."

Funnily enough, the claim never seemed to go anywhere...

At work we have the same problems, we recently had a broken window, the window was about 7 ft high by 10ft wide, so the glass had to be orderd sepcially and there was a three week wait, in the meantime boards were put on the broken section and bright yellow hazard tapen put on it, and the person then demonstrated we were at no risk by banging on the window! We then put some signs up stateing to stay back etc, people still leant on it and things, morons. We also had a women callapse last year and have an epileptic fit and things, very nasty, blood etc everywhere, anyway while waiting for an ambulance we closed the area off and performed first aid, myself and a few other staff were keeping people away, and despite being able to see what was happening they wanted us to climb over her to get there damn batteries! Some people!

We also have the usual prblems with conning areas off and being ignored, and I had a guy yell at me when I asked him to please step out that puddle so I can get it mopped up, he said I was rude and inpatient and complined. I managed to not laugh, the puddle was a stink bomb.
