This morning my CW (and bf) got a letter from someone who had read one of our books and wasn't happy with it. Here's some of it:
To whom it may concern,
I have just finished reading my copy of <book> and felt that I just had to relay my disappointment with what I consider to be a terrible work of history. I found the prose jarring and the author clearly had little knowledge of his subject. An example of this was <date of battle> which is clearly incorrect.
There was a lot more in a similar vein, very snotty, all rather unnecessary, but hey, if the book was bad, why not complain? I pointed this out to CW.
CW: The book was written by a bloke who is a recognised specialist of the period, it got amazing reviews from several very high-brow newspapers and journals, and I checked the date of the battle, and the author got the date right. This guy is just a moron. AND he wants a free copy of "a better book" as compensation!
So what did CW do? He sent back a letter to the whiny man (I got him to email it to me)
Dear <snotty man>
Thank you so much for your letter, we are always pleased to hear from satisfied customers. <Publishing Company> has always striven to produce high quality books and your feedback is very much appreciated. We hope you will continue to purchase our books and I have enclosed a copy of our latest catalogue for your perusal.
Best wishes,
CW
