  • Life in the Drive-thru

Ah the good old drive-thru. One of the worst places to work. You get people who at the window decide to change their order, thus you have to do a trans void, and ring it up all over again. The people that have you throw their trash away for you. The people that empty their drinks and used gum in the drive-thru. People who smoke in your face, and ignore you while they talk on their phones. And recently this one lady who claims she gave me a twenty, when I claimed she gave me a ten, we then had to, in the middle of lunch rush, and we were backed up, had to count the till. Taking several minutes. She was of course swearing and getting pissed. But when we had the till counted it was right on, meaning she did indeed give me a ten. I feel better now.

I've taken to counting how much money they handed me out loud before i type it into the register. That way if they can't argue with me.

I can't belive they smoke in your face there should be some type of health and safety rule about that! yeck.

No matter how much the SC's yell at you remember you're just doing your job and most importantly you're doing it right and in time their childish rants will roll off your back. Good luck

When I worked at fast food places i always used to count in front of them and say something like "ok... out of $10.00" and wait for thier nod or another sign of "ok - right". They always seem to try to scam you at lunch or dinner when they know you are busy and have lots going on. Like you are just going to say "oh , okay, let me GIVE you what you say is right, without counting the drawer.

What my managers always did is tell the customer to come in (if in drive through) just take the whole drawer out replace it and let me continue on, while they counted the till. so it didn't slow the lines. about 7 of 10 times the scammers would just drive off after saying Nevermind!

I don't know where you live, but in Idaho Falls for sure, it is against the health code for any place with a drive thru to bring anything besides money into the window. Contamination issues. Check online for your county, the health department once dinged a store in IF for doing that. You may be able to tell them no and have a reason that no manager will argue with.

I hated getting garbage but usually took it if it wasn't obviously gross and sticky. Better than the naked male hippies I saw one night at McD's. *shudder*

My husband can one-up you. Back when he worked McD's, a guy came through while his girlfriend was … ummm … taking care of him. And not with her hands.
