Do students count as SCs?

My take on the story: the girl was flirting. She's ten, eleven at most. Apparently, she does not see a lot of sexual play at home, or has not been molested, so doesn't really know a way to get boy's attention. Boy doesn't understand. Has probably seen dad or current boyfriend push mom around. Has possibly been pushed around by dad, current boyfriend or mom, so believes it to be the appropriate solution.

I wonder what would have happened if she'd socked him in the arm to get his attention.
