It's usually one of the three:

    a) She was in a bad place mentally at the time and attracted to an abusive personality.
    b) He really was a very nice guy who slowly devolved into what we currently see due to work stress, and now there are kids and bills to pay, so it's not like she can just start over.
    c) He's got enough money that you can overlook it.
    I'm thinking:

    d) she's the one who really runs the show behind closed doors.
I was not hired to respond to those voices.

Wow. Thats actually a great ending. Im glad you didnt get fired, Nijiero for giving away sandwiches. At least your heart was in the right place. And I might've done the same to be honest.

Let us know what management decides as far as a policy change.

Your manager at PopGoesThe Weasel In The Box was awesome and the way you handled yourself in putting that asshole in his place was just incredible! That's pretty bad if even his own WIFE thinks he's such a prick. I just wonder how she puts up with him from day to day or has yet to divorce him. I'm happy you didn't get fired for giving the sandwiches away to the homeless guy.

Best thing is, he might not be getting any for awhile.

I can just imagine this conversation taking place, later that evening, as the douchebag and wife went to bed.....

W: "You know, you really made an ass out of yourself today. You embarrased the kids and me, and we left hungry".
DB: "But honey, those idiots are always screwing up my order, take too long, and don't know how to do their job."
W: "Well, sure, they may make mistakes occasionally but I don't think it's intentional, and doesn't happen as often as you claim. You're just being rude!"
DB: "Aw sweety, let's just forget about all this and....." *Reaches over, and starts caressing her*
W: "Get your damn hands off me!!" *Slaps his hand away, and turns away* "Now turn that light off! I'm going to sleep!"

Or better yet, she makes him sleep on the couch.

I hope those kids see what a jerk their father is vs what a decent person their mother is, and resolve to be like her and NOT like him!

I think the real problem with the SC in this case is he really ISN'T that important in all other aspects of his life. His kids probably already resent him, his wife probably regrets him, the people he supervises at work are most likely plotting to kill him, his superiors at work probably think he's worthless, and his customers (if he's in that sort of position) are probably routinely dissatisfied. So, there's only one avenue to bolster the ego, and that's to abuse those who are in the least position to defend themselves.

I'm guessing he also has a small penis. I know, the default excuse when a customer's an asshole, but seriously - admitting it is the first step to recovery. You have a small dick, get used to it, being a jerk won't make it any bigger.

and ... the family is going to be pissed that his ego made him deny them their dinner.

he'll go on about how it was your fault but... his wife will probably tell him that his ego is ruining things for everyone.

Friendofjimmyk: Timeline of events? Well, this has all happened in a matter of days, naturally, but my Suspension was set for one schedual week... which is oddly enough on time, because for reasons I never understood, our Schedual Calender at Subway Begins on Wendsday and ends on Tuesday.. this constantly confuses people that I make plans with, because I have to tell them I won't know my Next Week schedual untill Tuesday, as opposed to normal places, where it comes out, like, saturday, for a week that begins on Monday-ends Sunday. Is that what you were refering too?
I think she was referring to the fact that this has only been a span of 3 days, from Tuesday, May 12, when I assume the incident happened to Friday, May 15, when this update was posted, yet it's worded almost like it's taken place over a whole week.
Thanks for clarifying the schedule timing, though.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

You know, I wonder - often - why women marry men like him. And, after years of marriage and knowing what a douchebag he is, why they STAY married.

I actually asked a friend of mine, whose husband is admittedly a REAL a** (like, to the point that she regularly apologizes for him), and she looked thoughtful for a moment, then said, "I have no idea."
I came to the realization a couple of months ago that that's what I was heading into with The Boy. It's been 3 years, he's still stomping around being pissed off at the world and rude to service workers, and I'm not going to be able to change him. I hadn't realized how often I apologized for him, altered my own plans, or avoided speaking up with a different opinion, because it was just too damn much work dealing with him when he's been thwarted or challenged.

I think it's the boiled-frog syndrome - the situation changes so slowly that you don't always recognize what's happening. However, this frog is jumping now - I signed the lease on my new apartment on Thursday.
