Good on you for standing your ground, but sometimes the SC's win.

I saw a story where the father of a student who had plagiarised a paper, failed his class and thus was not allowed to graduate went all the way to the Univeristy President and got them to WAIVE THE COURSE REQUIREMENT for the cheating student so he could graduate with the rest of his class.

Why did they waive it you ask? Well turns out dear Dad had just donated $2 million to the University.

Really makes you wonder who REALLY has the power at our institutions of higher learning.

      Would that be Mr. Franklin?

Well, that's a real nice lesson to teach junior though. With enough money you can get out of anything....

So, I really hope this phone conversation was not taped because I really do not want to try and explaining this to my boss.
IF the conversation DID tape...you have this dumbass on the phone admitting she copied and pasted someone else's work. I mean, she is REALLY lucky she this is not going any further. I don't think she realizes the seriousness of this issue. Maybe she really needs to be turned in.

I think you need to alert this poor professor that this twit is trying to go over her head. You know. So she's prepared for any future efforts. That's....really the only reason. No hopes of deserved professorial retaliation here. None at all. Nope.

I agree, sounds like she just needs to be turned in now.

No offense, but I personally hate having to do an assignment with MLA, or read one done in MLA or any referencing format which requires one to use brackets and not footnotes. I find it rather distracts from the actual article.

In saying that, I think you shouldn't resist the urge, I think student may need it. I'm not condoning violence, just suggesting that the student my learn from osmosis....

Sigh. Everyone pays each others salary. Customer come on the plane, their ticket goes some way towards my salary. They work in the public sector, therefore my tax may go towards their salary. For example.
                  Right on the money here.

And while I think the OP's response was awesome, another one could have been something like "And the professor helps pay my salary, and even I help pay my own salary. What's your point?"

Of course, any response that required the SC to think would have been a waste of time.

Me: That would be considered plagiarism. Because of that your professor gave you a 0. You can make up the 0 on your final paper. Your professor has not turned you over to the university, in which you could fail the course or have been dismissed...
I hope Stupid Student is dismissed. The fail is strong with that one. Ugh.

It's idiots like that that make the rest of us college students look bad. Just because she was too busy with her "alcohol studies" homework to worry about her other classes, she thinks she should get an A? I admit that I've had thoughts like that at times, especially when working on papers, but I'd never complain about getting caught plagerizing, and even have the nerve to demand my advisor fix it. For the love of God, get her entitled ass thrown out and into the real world, where she might learn some common sense. (or get arrested, which would have the same effect).

                        "i pay your salary!!!!!'

best reply ... other than asking for a raise... "No the university pays my salary. Your tuition is NOT a guarantee of passing grades - you, like all other paying students - have to earn your grades."

i wonder if you can recommend he be put on academic probation for that.. both the plagiarism and harassing a teacher...

I just wish that the idiots at my University would have this happen to them. Too many of them get "diversion" and no consequences for their actions, which can involve setting couches on fire, rioting, throwing feces/vomit/anything else you wouldn't want near you at people in a parade (I think flour bombs and water balloons are fine btw) is not a good look. In fact I think many of you now know where I go to Uni because of these idiots!

Tuition fees buy you access to the University's facilities and equipment. It's up to you to use them properly.
