Because there was nobody else on the floor available, I got stuck with this price check.
The customer was buying one of those bristle-y coir doormats. It rang up at $9.99. She said it should be $8.
I scanned the doormat and it did ring up at $9.99. That was the clearance price, however. Clearance items are never included in any of our sales. I told the lady this but she insisted she should get the doormat for $8.
I really should've stood my ground and told her no a second time. Just because she wants to buy a doormat doesn't mean I have to be one. But to humor her I went to domestics to check it out.
Sure enough, I found her particular doormat with a clearance label for $9.99 on the bottom shelf where it was. I also found a sign advertising $8 doormats--on the top shelf. Near the bottom of that sign were the words "Excludes clearance."
I called the cashier back to tell her the doormat was $9.99. The customer decided she didn't want it, so into returns it went. Which means it will probably get backstocked because that's what the floor people do with all the returns.
