Forgive me all, with a major life event, I forgot how much I love this site. Being in collections, it wasn't so bad for me. I could come here and laugh, without being able to RELATE. However, I got laid off and now work CS for a major bank. Please tell me I'm not alone in this...

Why do customers call the bank and then refuse to give account numbers or SSNs because "I don't give that info over the phone"? Really Mr. Dan Johnson or Robert Smith??? I'm sure I'm magic enough to find you by your name, it's so damn unique!

Why do people call in when their accounts are overdrawn, admit to knowing they had X in the account, that they spent X+100 and then insist that they just can NOT comprehend how they are possibly overdrawn?

Why am I as a CS worker the scum of the earth to most callers? What in the hell did I ever do to them?

I am so out of my league. In commercial collections, I didn't have to hold my tongue so much. I've nearly bitten through it now!

Which is why I don't have the ability to overdraw on my account
If I don't have the money in my account I probably can't afford it. Also means I don't have to pay more fees and stuff. If the money isn't in my account I get the dreaded "Declined" instead.

Why do I still work there again?

Aha! However, if you have $200 in your account and spend $199 over the weekend, then your check for $250 comes in on Monday, what happens?

It's really a hideous cycle when you pull the check/debit cards in. And factor in that only about 25% of people track on a register in this day and age.

It's called money management which your SC's obviously don't know I know I have to keep x amount of money in my account to pay for my rent or other bills. Also helps to have an account for bills and an account for spending

But that's just downright logical! SCs can't quite grasp the concept, that's why they are SCs.

Doesn't happen to me. I crafted my own set of Excel spreadsheets that track my money for me. It even shows my net worth and divides my one savings account into eight separate funds (car repair, long-term emergency, medical emergency, vacation, new electronics, etc.). I track all my purchases there, including checks. So my online bank statement might show $2000, but I know I only have $1250 because my rent and cell phone checks have not cleared yet. My spreadsheet shows me what my bank does not know yet.

But then, I'm also willing to give my bank's CS people my account number when I call. And I don't demand to speak to a supervisor to check my account balance. And I'm capable of recognizing when I've called a wrong number. Just goes to show how bizarre I must be.
