This kind of thing makes me so mad and sad at the same time. DH and I desperately want children. We've been trying for almost a year and a half. He'll be a fantastic father and (not to toot my own horn) I will be a wonderful mother. And yet people like that thoughtless cow have a child they don't even care about.
    Don't wanna; not gonna.

      Update:

I talked to AM today and the mother was getting a hot dog at the stand inside of our store, but it looked like she was headed down to the lumber department to go shopping Until she heard the page...

There was a customer that was franatically running through the store looking for something to break the window of the vehicle to get the baby out.

AM didn't swear or cuss out the customer but was yelling, being aggressive, and give death glares.

Apparently there were customers that saw what happened and were calling the mother "a stupid bitch" and telling us to get the cops down here. Which I wish had been done.

Unfortunately for AM, this may cost her her job. It has gone to corporate, and Bitch Manager has been spreading the rumor that AM was swearing at the mother up and down. They said that they would decide on Tuesday what happens to AM.

If they fire her they will have one pissed off store.

If I had been there, I would have been swearing at her .... before the AM had the chance to. I would have picked up the biggest rock I could find and broken her window rather than go inside for something... though I do keep a 5 lb deadblow hammer in the trunk of my car

I do hope that the Am doesnt have any problems, and I would tell corporate that the woman is probably lying because of her being in the definite wrong in this matter.

Is it possible to round up the customers as witnesses? If so, do so; and make sure that as many as humanly possible call up corporate and tell them what really happened... along with threats to never shop there again if they fire AM.

            I like this idea.

I live in Seattle as well, and maybe a month ago, there was an incident in a suburb north of Seattle where a mom "forgot" her kid was in the car when she arrived at work. She didn't discover it until the end of her workday, and by then of course, it was too late.

I have never been able to quite grasp how someone could forget their child is in the car, but admittedly, I've never been a parent.

But to outright leave a kid, or animal, in a car is unthinkable, and unforgivible.

This story was well publicized in our area, and I can't help but wonder how the egg supplier in Keiara's O.P. didn't hear of it. Unless she's one of those that doesn't read or watch the news.

Even so, without knowledge of other incidents that have turned tragic, it's still damn common sense!

I live in the Seattle area. Right now we are having really nice sunny weather. Today it was about 75-80 degrees with about 70% humidity. This is important as you'll see later.
After reading this, I was ready to call Shenanigans as I have NEVER seen the sun shine in Seattle in my many many trips to that wet dreary place. It's my belief that someone pissed off the Sun God when they stole the land from the Indians

As for the rest of it, I don't know what make me more pissed. The shitty mother or the ones trying to take advantage of this to get the AM fired. Even arch-rivals will come together to fight a greater evil. The BM deserves the ultimate in bad karma payback.

Yeah, my friend was always great at coming up with those spur-of-the-moment lies to minimize the consequences of her disastrous decisions too. "I wasn't really stealing that money from Mommy's wallet; it just fell out while I was watching and I was putting it back!"

I always buy my hot dogs at home improvement supercenters. Don't you? I find Home Depot has the best hot dogs, but if I need to save a little money, there's always Lowe's...

Sounds to me like a standard SC reaction: "I've been called out on my behavior and it was a humiliating experience, so I'm going to ensure that those who called me out suffer for it." And while I don't know the politics of your store, it also sounds like the other manager is looking to expand an empire and wants to dispose of the competition.

Is there an avenue for a formal protest of Corporate if the poor AM does wind up sanctioned? "We, the undersigned, are protesting the treatment of the AM for the following reasons..." Corporate must know that it can be hazardous to their bottom line to have a rebellious staff.

                Best of luck.

Good grief. I'm originally from Phoenix Arizona, which is as hot as Hell for seven months straight every year. Every summer there were stories on the news about babies, elderly folks or animals left in locked cars parked in the blazing sun, dying from the brutal heat. And yet nobody learns the lessons of history, as it keeps happening every. damned. year.

Even in more temperate climates, you cannot leave a baby, elderly person or pet locked in a car parked in the sun. It still gets far too hot in the car.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's horrible when people who genuinely want to raise kids can't get them.

There's this baby in Seattle that needs great parents - have you considered adoption?

(Side note: I'm aiming for dark humour at the horrid situation. I wish we could just swap kids around like this - take them from the bad parents and give them to folks like you.)

If you're at a store and see a child/pet closed in a car and/or in a potentially dangerous situation, pull out the cell phone and call authorities. Run to find help of course, but make sure you call the cops.

Our store will call police if a minor is in danger. But won't if it's a pet. Instead, they'll just keep paging "Attention customers, there is an animal in distress. If you own a blue 2005 honda, please return to the parking lot". I assume it's because the store doesn't want to be liable if they bust out a window for a puppy. Or if they called the cops to do it. But it's okay if a customer calls authorities and all hell breaks loose. Which is probably why an *anonymous* call has sometimes come from a personal cell phone that, strangely enough, belongs to an employee. What a horrid policy.

If I ever see a child in a car unattended, there will be no hesitation. 911 all the way. I, too, am reminded of the mother who left her child in the car while she was at work. How many people do you think walked by that car that day? The thought of there even being one person who did nothing breaks my heart.

Don't even get me started on the fools who let their baby freeze to death in their arms. They deserve the hell of guilt they will have for the rest of their lives. That is horrific.

My Store manager knows about BM's actions. In a previous post she yelled at me on the floor in front of coworkers and customers. Then, twisted the story.

From what I understand the final decision will lie with SM.

there is seriously NO reason to leave a child in the car unattended!!! If I needed to run an errand and could not take the kiddies with me, they stayed at home with their uncle or uncle came with me on errands to tend to the young'uns. when I moved to colorado a few years back I heard two horrible stories. One, a mother went to work and forgot baby was in the car and baby died. What gets me is if a child is supposed to be strapped into the middle seat of the car how would you not see him when checking your rearview mirror. Honestly, car seats are NOT tiny. The second, a mother had to be at work but had no sitter so she took baby to work and checked on him during her breaks. Yeah, that baby died too. That made me particularly angry because if you have no sitter why not call in. Yeah, management will be all whiny but it's better to have angry manager than a dead child. OOOH!! the anger....

Yesterday we had someone park on the forecourt (big nono) and leave their car there for a while (even bigger nono). It had been there for about half an hour before, much to our collective horror, we saw something rear up from the back seat where it had been lying hidden from view; it was a large mongrel dog. -.- We were just about to call the police, when the family returned to it so they just got a huge telling off from the manager instead for all three of their crimes. XD Day was very warm and sunny, btw; tho the dog did revenge itself somewhat on its family; it had peed all over the back seat. XD

A friend of mine accidentally left a baby in a car last year and she later died, so I can't stand parents like this.

I'm in the break the window THEN call 911 camp because i believe the welfare of the child should be safeguarded first, then call authorities.
