I mean, really. Where was this child's mother? In the other room, it says. Doing what? What was so important? Your child could die! People just don't realize how fast it can happen. I think it only takes 4 minutes of oxygen deprivation to cause severe brain damage. Even if it is as much as 5, five minutes goes by so fast!

This is a tragedy.

Unfortunately, the follow up to this story is that she did die. 4 years old. Hadn't even begun her life yet. Tragic.

thats completely disgusting! how shocking! over here in the UK, 2 police dogs have just been boiled to death 'cause they were locked in a car! But a baby. . .. i shudder to think..

i hate parents like that. . .in my pal's department store this Asian woman came in, didnt speak a word of english, had about 5 kids and a baby in the pram - she left the pram at the bloody front doors and went off shopping!!! What if there was a fire? What about paedophiles walking past in the street?? Managers flew into a panic and paged constantly for the mother to come get her; one of them actually had to sit with the baby! the woman came back and without a word pushed the pram out the store...

What the fuck?????!!!!! What is wrong with you??? You just can't leave your 10 month old baby in the car while you merrily go shopping. That's illegal! It's called child endangerment! You are so lucky that my manager didn't have to police come anyway!!!! You are lucky that we didn't write your license plate number down and call CPS on you to get your child taken away from you.

It is a shame that didn't happen. At 80 degrees the internal temperature of the car can reach 125 degrees in less than an hour and that is with the windows rolled down. The core temperature of a child that young left exposed to that level of heat would rise to 107 within ten minutes of exposure. Your AM probably saved the kid's life. She deserves a medal not a write up.

I have never been able to quite grasp how someone could forget their child is in the car, but admittedly, I've never been a parent.

I am a parent, and I have never been able to grasp this either. There has never been a moment in my life since I became a parent when my children weren't at the fore-front in my mind. I am not the Mom of the year, I screw up all the time, but I always know where my kids are, cause I am always thinking about them.

The little rats (and I say that in the most loving way possible) will try to fake me out sometimes, but if they end up somewhere they aren't supposed to it isn't because I just forgot about them.

Keiara, I too am from the Seattle area, it is very legal for you to break the windows when a baby, OR an animal is in distress. My step-dad owned his own irrigation business for many years and would spend lots of time in hardware store parking lots, sometimes I think he would just cruise the lot on hot days looking for windows to break. He had SO many stories about personally calling the cops and chewing out the offenders.

And Ben_Who, if it's the hardware store/hot dog stand I think it is - Their hot dogs are AMAZING! I have no idea why it's there or what in the world possessed me to stop there in the first place, but OMG so good! I used to work at the 'blue and yellow Scandinavian box' and got pretty desperate for new lunch options, this place was just a little down the road.

Nothing was done to AM. Corporate told the 'mother' that she was an idiot and what she did was illegal.

Then the mother tried to pull the 'my husband is a police officer and it's not illegal to leave your children in a car' card.....Declined....bitch


I wanted to do unmentionable things to this woman. Including making sure that she would never have kids again...

That's good to hear! So many times The Suits will automatically side with the customer, I'm glad that for once, they're thinking with their brains instead of their pocketbooks.
