Maybe I'm mis-reading the original post, but I thought the problem was that she sent 2 pairs of jeans, each worth $400 (for a total of $800) but she only purchased $400 worth of insurance.

Or am I missing something here?

At first I was thinking the same thing, but re-reading it, I understood that the total price for the two was $200. Maybe a word is missing in the OP?

$400 for jeans (whether it is one or two pairs)
My favourite jeans cost £12 (about $20) and I got good wear out of my £3 ($5) ones.

If they were $400 a piece brand new then I think $400 for both used is a good return anyway.
