I am just going to wait, til the price drops way down. I truly never understand, how someone could wait in line for a video game system. And all the people trying to fight people for the systems.

When I was at Best Buy to look at refrigerators last night, there were about 2 dozen tents on the sidewalk. Oddly enough, there weren't any at Circuit City...which isn't surprising, since they don't really *have* a sidewalk. Their front entry area is tiny! I sure hope the idiots outside BB managed to stay warm and dry last night.

        Me either.

And there are people selling their spots in line. One guy was selling the number one spot at the local Best Buy for 2 grand.

The ones here are behaving thus far. There's a nerd huddle in front of London Drugs and another in front of Future Shop down from my office. But they're all in a circle playing on their Nintendo DS's. ( Which I find amusing since they're all camping out for a Sony PS3 ). They've been there since yesterday morning <shakes head>.

As for understanding it? I'm a gamer myself but I point and laugh at these people. -.- I can't justify spending a month's rent on a gaming console. I don't care if it has a blu ray player. It'll be quite a while yet before DVDs start to die off. I'll pick up a blu ray when they come down in price, which they will in a few years.

I haven't cared for Sony since they went on this pissing contest "Look how awesome our console is!@#!$" marketing approach back with the PS2. I'll happily buy a Wii at some point though, at least thats sanely priced and actually has games I want to play on it.

the freaking thing is like $600.00!!

I guess I shouldn't be to shocked, the 360 was selling for $1,500.00 in some places. I thing ebay is trying to prevent this with the PS3.

I will be waiting a couple of years when the price goes down to $250.00. That is the price of my rent and water bill combined.

How would ebay be able to regulate the price on the PS3. I think either people will buy a PS3 at an insanely high price or they will wait until more become available. If I had realized that the PS3 was coming out tomorrow I would have bought as many as I could and sold them on ebay for insanely high prices. You could probably make a nice chunk of change if you could get your hands on one or two. They will probably sell for at least 10 times the price on ebay. I'd be curious to know what the highest price someone will pay for one will be.

From a business perspective though, it's the only way to go. You generate an insane amount of hype and at the same time the small release insres that the bugs can be worked out of the system in sort of a gigantic Beta test mode.
I actually read an article last year that said no, it is a really, really stupid buisness practice. As evidenced by the crazies, they could release as many as 100xs the number they are doing and still have them sell off the shelves. All of the eBay resales and such do not make the company *any* more money. The release-day hype doesn't make the company any more money. Supply and demmand - supply is low, demmand is huge, yet the price is the same as it will be 3 months later when everyone has them sitting around.

I think they just like creating SCs and situations like this.

Further conversation reveals that Nom#2's 12-year old daughter is home alone while her mother stands in line.
12 years old is not an age to raise red flags for being home alone. I started staying home alone at the age of 10. It depends on the maturity level of the kid. When I was 12, I started babysitting.

Okay, this story wins for the stupidest person camping out for a PS3....

Nine Months Pregnant, In Line For PlayStation

According to the AP there is a pregnant woman in line at a Mount Laurel, New Jersey Circuit City. She's also having contractions. She's also staying in line until she gets a PlayStation 3. Who can compete with nutjobs like this?

Nine months pregnant, Julie Mosley said she tried to ignore her contractions for the chance to score machines for her family, her daughter's father and her younger brother.

Really? Where do you live and do they have any vacancies?

Ok. So why the HELL is the father not waiting in line, instead of the mother if this system is so DAMN important to him? I could *maybe* see mom going to the hospital if she started her contractions and allowing another family member to escort her/help her through her labor if the system is THAT important to the family...*maybe*. But somehow, I think the birth of your child is much more important than a gaming system! Especially since it will be available in a few months! Why do you NEED to be the FIRST person to have it?!?!

                          I don't get it!
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

I was just watching TV when I saw a shot of people in tents waiting in line. Come on guys, it's a video game system not the Holy Grail.
The news showed people camping out in front of the Best Buy in my area as well. I wonder how they liked the storm that hit us yesterday? It was a really nasty one with nightlike skies and sideways rain. Got a really beautiful double rainbow when it let up, though.

I was watching the morning news today, (I gotta keep up on events ) and I witnessed footage of two guys tackling each other over this thing. I also just read a article about a guy who got shot over this thing.

Well, looks my fears of peopel gettig nviolent over it were wel lfounded. I only hope we don't hear too much about muggings as the holidays draw closer, or hit and rusn for the damned console. I'm glads the Gamestop wasn't swamped when I went to replace my Ds, and I got to try out the Wii.
