There's more than one (smallish) restaurant around here that has signes clearly posted -- they read, in summary: "If you're on the cell phone when you reach the register, you will not be served until you hang up". They will make the cell people either hang up or step out of line (their place is held) so that other people can be helped ^_^
on "Like, really?!"/"ya know?"/"uhm"/etc -- There's a certain radio show here in tha Deep South that has a 4 "ya know" rule, tho they have been slacking off on enforcement lately. If someone calls in to the show, the hosts will simply hang up on them after 4 such utterances, if they are used as, like, punctuation? Ya know? Exceptions are made for times when people either (a) use the terminology as part of a coherent sentence (as in, "Ya know you're in trouble when"), or (b) when the speaker actually has something interesting to say. The hosts will still call the speaker out in that case, but thye will be allowed to keep on talking. I believe the record for shortest call is something like 8 seconds before a hangup...
