    *twitch*

Now that's just sad. I mean, you do have to study something that includes him in school, right?

    ^-.-^
I don't remember ever hearing about him in school. The older I get, the more I realize just how truly horrible our public school system was/is in Las Cruces.

And if he'd only done the job properly, we wouldn't have to deal with this mess right now.
Maybe, maybe not. They didn't succeed in blowing up James VI & I and Parliament, but the future Charles I was already about 5. The plan also hinged on them successfully kidnapping James' children.

A few more of recently. (see my WTF thread in General Work Chat for a better explanation)

"Can I please have a job?"

"I bought this <thing> from <other store> recently. Can I return it here?"

      "Where are your cigarettes?"

All three of these aren't stupid if they're done at the service desk. Asking the checkout girl, who has had no training in processing the above, who is on a register some three feet away however...

I never heard about him either, but I don't think he was really part of the history lesson in American schools. I do believe that he is part of the standard history curriculum in the UK, though. I am sure that there are also many historical American figures that the Brits are completely unfamiliar with.

Yeah, but you don't know the school system in Las Cruces. There were many, many things that should have been taught that I didn't get until I got to college.

Except for one really good history teacher that, unfortunately died several years ago. If I could have had him for European history, I can guarantee he would have had something about Guy Fawkes.

"Can I use my EFTPOS/ATM card?" when wanting to buy stuff over the phone!
Maybe this is a cultural or country thing, but this seems like a pretty reasonable question to me. In my area, folks use the terms "ATM card" and "Debit Card" interchangeably, and since debit cards can be used as credit cards this is not an uncommon inquiry for me to hear.

My only question is whether it's a true ATM card (useable only at an ATM machine) or it's a Debit card (has a Visa or MC logo on it). As long as it's the later, I can take payment over the phone with it.

"Wait, we have to be 21 to drink here?" Just like in the rest of the country, yes, genius.

I can actually understand someone asking that question.
In Canada the legal drinking age is 18 or 19 depending on which province you are in.
