bean, seriously, just buy yourself a degaussing wand so you can do it yourself. They're still available, from as low as $17.85!

That's gonna save you money in the long run. I mean, you can pay $20 EVERY TIME it needs to be degaussed, or pay that ONCE and be able to degauss it yourself whenever it's necessary. You do the math.

'degauss'? Does that mean re-magnetizing it? from what everyone says i'm gathering that's it but I want to be sure I know what i'm talking about...and how is it pronounced?

Yep, it's demagnetizing the screen... and I believe it's the latter pronunciation... at least, I've never heard anyone say it the first way.

The History of Violence was the last film released on vhs. (Hollywood film, I'm guessing).

Didn't she realize that the money was a lot safer in the bank than on her person?
She probably wouldn't have realized it even if someone had bashed her head in and took off with her cash.

              Some people just don't think.

As far as the DVD players go, I found it actually cheaper to buy one of those DVD/VCR combo units (bought 2 of them on sale for $69 several years ago but gave one away b/c we didn't need both at the time) than to get separate units.

But then we also have tv's that have everything built in (DVD and VCR) but we now have 2 tv's that need work done on the DVD players. And they're big tv's (my 24 inch Toshiba flatscreen combo and Mom's 25 inch Panasonic flatscreen) but until we can find someone who does house calls, I've got the combo unit hooked up to my tv and a small DVD player hooked up to Mom's tv and they all work just fine that way (her VCR still works fine, as does mine).

When those wear out completely, we'll buy new tv's . . . until then we'll use what we have.

Short form: colour CRTs have 3 electron guns, and (except for Sony Trinitron) something called a "shadow mask" (metal screen full of holes to make sure the beam from the red gun only hits the red phosphors, blue gun only hits the blue, and green gun only hits the green). If the shadow mask gets magnetized, the beams from the electron guns get bent so they hit the wrong phosphors, causing wrong colours on screen. When you degauss (rhymes with "house"), you demagnetize the shadow mask so the electron guns hit the right phosphors.
