  • Digital TV Box Bitching

Today, I had a whopping five customers freak out at me because we are:

    a) Sold out of the converter boxes
    b) Not carrying them anymore

First of all, we've had them since around March. Why didn't you go ahead and buy it then instead of waiting until the month it switches over? Jeez.

Anyone else deal with these guys?

The switch was going to have happened in February but it got changed to the June 12 date so I'm thinking people thought it was going to get delayed again & when they saw it wasn't then they got all bent out of shape.
They only have themselves to blame.

i work at a cable call center and I am quite surprised that we didn't get much calls about DTV. I am sure tomorrow will be very busy with "last-minute" customer syndrome.

Obama could've delayed the transition to a year from now, 2 years from now, 50 years from now, or whatever, and there would still be people wondering why their TVs didn't work when the change finally happened.

I sure feel sorry for people who have to work in a store that sells those boxes. I can only imagine the whine fest that must be going on right now.

My heart goes out to all of you on this board who have to endure this.

I got my two 40 dollar vouchers and bought my two digital converter boxes last year. No problems here.

I don't have cable or any sort of TV service for that matter...i usually just watch movies or play games on my fiance's TV...he needs a new one....half the buttons are caved in on the front and once in a while it'll blip. by that i mean it'll go all pale and wonky...

If anyone is interested in discussing the validity or effectiveness of the government program which subsidizes the converters, please go to the Fratching thread found here.

I'd like this thread to stay on the track it's been on, which is how the transition affects customer service providers and their SCs. Thanks.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Wasn't the original, original date supposed to be something like five years ago or more?

I dont know but I disconnected my cable and hooked up an antenna and most of the digital signals are crap. I only live about 4 miles away from most of the transmitting towers and picture breaks up bad on most of them. Don't know if the digital transmitters haven't been upgraded to full power yet or not.

I don't have a converter, and even if I still had an analog tv, I wouldn't care. I don't watch TV.

But even if you sent converters free to every household in the country, you'd end up with people bitching and whining about either not getting one for every single analog tv they owned, or lying that they didn't get one, or whining that they don't have a tv, etc, etc, etc.

My brother ordered a couple of vouchers a few months ago and we have one box already - we're moving a tv into the living room and use the converter box in there.

As far as the rest of the tv's go . . . we now have 5 satellite receivers, having just had the most recent one installed almost 2 weeks ago in my bedroom (we lucked up and they had an opening the very next day after Mom had called to set up the installation.)

                          It's all good.

The signal is too strong for the tuner to properly decode. If you're able to turn the gain down on your antenna try that. If not, go to a place like Radio Shack or a local antenna shop and see what you can do.
