My aunt dated a lawyer for a while, and the HOA at his condo wouldn't let him have his satellite dish on his balcony. It was only a 30" dish, too, but they wouln't have it. So he checked the code, and then installed a dozen of the ugliest pink plastic flamingoes he could find. About a month or so later, they relented on the satellite dish.
That's classic. These days, FCC rules state that HOAs can not prohibit satellite dishes for TV reception so long as they are under 1 meter in diameter (which that one clearly was).

I've posted about the idiots next door to my parents. The ones with the cameras, motion detectors, etc....who have been very quiet lately. Anyway, about a year after they moved in, things started going goofy. They would use local regulations to harass the rest of the neighbors.

For example, the people next to them, got a nasty letter from the borough about the "unsightly" object in their yard. The offender? A plastic kiddie wading pool, and a sinister blue one at that! I could have understood if it was a 1978 Chevy up on blocks, but a kiddie pool?

Then there was the guy across the street. He usually kept his boat down at the marina. But, one winter, he brought it home to work on it. He'd already pulled the motor and a few other parts, but left the hull (still on the trailer), in the driveway. Keep in mind that it was behind his house, and invisible from the street. He too got a complaint letter about it. Seems that the goofballs had climbed his fence, noted the boat, and decided to cause trouble.

That wasn't it. They actually tried to get *me* into trouble for having the MG in bits in the driveway. Well, technically it *was* in the driveway, which made it *technically*against the borough ordinance. However, it didn't stay there 24/7--I'd roll it outside, do what I had to do, then push it back into the garage. As far as the borough knew, it didn't exist. Even if they did, it was usually in the garage...meaning they would have had to get a warrant just to look at it

protege, that reminds me of the neighbor I had when growing up. She was a nasty old thing, her house was a WRECK -- still is according to another neighbor, worse even -- and always had something to pick with those that lived around her. Hell I'm surprised anyone lived through the crap she gave us and there was nothing the county could do against her even with the amount of complaints everyone had against her.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I live in Frederick County! Go MDers. I was gonna say to come here, they love farms and places like yours here, but go Baltimore County for standing up for you!
