“Melissa” from the parking office called me this morning to tell me there will be a last minute guest, Mark with TM Television, who will be arriving around 10 a.m. She said the dept. will provide Mark a token to exit.
Mark arrives around 9:45 a.m. I tell him the dept. will give him a token to exit.
The phone inside the booth rings. I look up, & there is a car at the exit gate.
Me: “Visitor parking booth, how may I help you?”
Guy: “Yeah…this is Mark with TM Television.”
Me: “I’m sorry, but the dept. will provide you with a token to exit. So what you do is back up & go back to the dept. & get the token from them” *I told you this when you arrived & so why are here @ the exit gate w/out one?*
Mark: “Really”
Me: “Yes”
Mark: “Can I just pay you?”
*according to the parking office, I cannot accept payment from anyone. Besides the dept. will give him a token*
Me: “I’m sorry, but no. The dept. has to give you a token to exit.”
Mark: “Can I just pay you?”
Rinse, lather, & repeat
Mark: “Can I just pay you?”
Me: “One moment please”
I transfer the call to the parking office. “Melissa” answers the phone, & I tell her the person at the exit gate wants to speak to my supervisor. I hang up the phone, & I watch Mark at the exit gate. He does not speak to the call box.
“Melissa” calls me & tells me there is no one at the exit gate. I tell her it was Mark & that he will not back up & get his token from the dept. She tells me he has to back up. Unfortunately the only way for him to reach me again is to press the call button again. So I hang up the phone & watch what he will do. He sits at the exit gate for about 3 minutes. I call “Melissa” & tell her 1) he will not back up & 2) he has not pressed the call button. There is nothing she can do.
The phone inside the booth rings. It’s him…again. I say “one moment please”, & I transfer the call to campus police. I tell them the entire situation. A university cop arrives & tells him he has to back up & go back to the dept. He finally does that.
