I fly around a lot and make sure that I am polite to all attendants, travel agents, check in people etc etc. I have an injury to my leg that the doc says that I have an elevated risk of DVT.

However, my first and last flights with United - when I went from Tokyo to Denver, via San Fransisco. I had a nose bleed on the way back, a very bad one too - and was feeling faint and sickly - they refused to give me water.

The best service I have ever had was with Malaysian Airlines and Thai Airways - absolutely wonderful service.

I am flying in about 7 hours time with Air Canada - going back to the US for a conference.

Thing is, for the most part FAs are really awesome people that have a difficult job. From cranky babies to barfing kids to crabby elderly folks.

I'm 6'5" and not small. I also can't afford business class or first class, and I used to run around the country going on mods to shrink (yep) various coach classes by incremements to fit more seats into the coach area post 9/11.

This was not done without a sense of irony. Also, it's something you simply can't tell your fellow passengers.

At some point I had to gently tap the gentleman in front of me who kept yelling at the FA that his seat was broken, and that she needed to comp his ticket because the seat was broken, and how could such a reputable airline have such shoddy equipment, etc, etc, and say, "Sir, usually if the seat is broken the mechanical systems of the chair prevent it from moving at all. What you're doing, which I asked you NOT to do, was lean back in your chair, because the seat back is compressing against my knees."

"Well, I paid for this seat!"
"And I paid for this one. If you persist and damage my ACLs after being politely requested not to, I'm afraid the US legal system sides with me."
He turned around to yap off at me, but I was looming at that point to get my bag out of the overhead so I could put my kneepads on (never leave home without your kneepads on a flight mod, seriously) and wound up staring at my midsection.

I got extra bourbons for that one.

In less than one month, I will be making a flight from South Africa to Paris, Paris to Toronto and Toronto to Regina. Two weeks after that, I'll be doing it again but in reverse.
You can bet your shiney hiney I'm gonna be very polite to the FAs. I at least get the option of sleeping during my flight, they, unfortunately, do not.

Starring Samual L Jackson as Princess Katie Air Hostess.

"I've had it with these mothering pricks on this mothering plane."
              LOL that's funny

I really admire people who work as nurses, doctors, EMT's etc They save lives every day and get so much abuse off people. I could not do their jobs, dealing with the seething mass of humanity.

But as someone else has said, even if that employee isn't their for your safety/health/security...well that's no excuse to not be polite. I am ALWAYS polite to anyone providing a service to me, as we all know it's not hard to say please and thank you and to remember that your cashier/server etc is a human being too. It seems as if a large majority of customers are simply not nice people Think that it reflects the general state of the world and the self entitled attitude many people have.
              No longer a flight atttendant!
