    Background-

I work at an after hours answering service... For doctors, lawyers, funeral homes, service companies, etc. Please don't ask or try to guess what city.

Also, yesterday I worked a 10 hour shift, only to go back to work literally 8 hrs later... Even stayed the night at work.

    Cue the Rant

All right DOUCHEWAFFLE. You know I'm sleeping here... Why the HELL were you so loud at ONE in the DANG morning?! I don't like you. I know where you live... Here. LOL. I'll remember that though. You better believe it!

    General Rant

NO a funeral home is not open on the Fourth of July.
NO a lawyers office is not open on the Fourth of July.
NO a doctor's office is not open on the Fourth of July.
NO a hardware store is not open on the Fourth of July.
    And no I don't care that your babby's daddy's cousin's best friend's uncle's dog groomer's husband's mistress'es back alley abortion doctor got arrested.

    Not even a little.

    Nope.

I'd even be a little sympathetic and not so annoyed... IF you didn't ask me why or argue with me that you needing a nut (take from that what you will) is an ER.

    Cue the Attitude

By the way, a final note? Guess what happens if you curse at me.

    I'll give you a hint....

I cant imagine why people would think these services would be open on the 4th of July. *sigh* Im sorry you had such a long day.
Sorry, my love cannot be bought. And if it could, you obviously don't have enough in your account to do so.

That's funny, everyone has it backwards. Everyone kept asking me if we were CLOSED today. Of course we were open. Retail only gets three days off a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

But in my little town, the funeral homes and hardware stores ARE open on the 4th, even some of the doc's offices like Urgent Care and ICC.

In my case, I get off one day a year: Christmas, and that's only until corporate decides to experiment with having stores open that day to take advantage of other stores being closed, which I still think will be sometime in the future.

And such a test will inevitably include my stores, since the stores in my state are about the only ones in the chain that are open on holidays.

My funeral homes were open today, for the most part, though only for picking up bodies and the like.

Now, YESTERDAY, when the newspaper was closed for the fourth and had announcements stating it would be for a week prior...that was a wad of hijinks...

Given that I'm Australian, just about nearly every single retail outlet is closed on public holidays, with the absolute essentials being open. Those that are open usually get paid double-time-and-a-half for it. I doubt that work is planning on trialling being open for most public holidays, we're only open at the moment for Easter Saturday. While they may be a PITA at times, at least they do take some good care of their staff.

I would think that criminal defense lawyers would be doing almost as brisk business as cops and EMS on the 4th....or is it just their answering services getting swamped?

..... People thinking that the places are open doesn't bother me necessarily... But the callers hardly ever just said ok and hung up. They argued and couldn't understand WHY they were not open.

Sadly, I remember when most everyone was closed for the Fourth. It was mostly a day to get together and celebrate with friends. If you were working on that day, other then for emergancy services, your employer was thought to be real jerks. Now everyone is open. <Sigh>
