  • Visitor Parking is reserved; "Can I look for a spot?"

    Due to...
    • the weather
    • several reserved spots
    • limited non-reserved spots
    • the number of people wanting to park

Visitor parking was reserved for a while today.

A sucky female customer (SFC) who had an attitude & would not take no for an answer wanted to look for a spot after I told her the garage was reserved.

    Here is what happened.

me: "Hi, how may I help you?"
sfc: "Yeah.. I am parking in Visitor parking today."
me: "I'm sorry, but the garage is reserved, & I cannot allow anyone to park."
    sfc: *has an attitude*
"Yeah...but the last time you said that, there were open spots. Can I look for a spot?"
me: "I'm sorry, but according to dept. regulations, I cannot raise the gate for anyone wanting to do that.
    sfc: *still has an attitude*
"So how do you know the garage is reserved?"
me: "I do a space count & I go by what is on the event list."
sfc: "Well...the last time you said that, there were open spots. Can't I just look?
me: "I'm sorry, but according to the parking office, which I report to, I cannot allow anyone to do that. If you have any questions, you need to speak to them about that."

She shuts up & backs up. A car exits, leaving one non-reserved spot available. She returns. I decided to educate her at that point so this does not happen again.

female customer: "A car left. May I park?
    *hmmm...now you are pleasant*

me: "Yes, you may, but as an FYI, whenever the garage is reserved, the parking spots are only for the guests on the event list. When that happens, I am not allowed to give access to anyone not on the event list."
female customer: "So there is no guest parking?"
me: "There is guest parking, but the university does reserve spots for guests arriving at the campus for events. Because there is one non-reserved spot, you may park."

    She parks in the garage.

You're definitely nicer than I am. I would've left it at "no" after explaining it the first time.
If you don't like my attitude, talk to the manager!!! Oh, wait, that would be me!!

Yes, I'm the manager. I'm also known as "the brick wall".
