Whoa!! 13%, 15% sales taxes?? And I thought Rhode Island's 7% was high. We also do not tax food, clothing, and various other items (prescription drugs and newspapers come to mind) and there are no local taxes. I envy New Hampshire though: 0% sales tax!

I think the tax free days are almost worse than Black Friday. I have kids to shop for but dear God! I'll pay the tax and spare the stress. The parents all have their kids, many arguements and temper tantrums bloom over the kinds of clothes, who should be on their binders, etc. At least Black Friday isn't quite *that* bad (very close though).

(Although I work in Mass, so I pay Mass non-resident tax... D'oh! -- and I work for the railroad, so I get RRB taken from my check instead of Social Security.... Double-D'oh for now, but, I get a more stable retirement in about 30 years!)

Iowa's not the middle of nowhere!! :-) I have wide feet too, Nike are not a good brand for the wide footed, I too have blown them out. I've had better luck with Skeetchers and Asics. If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.
