This is my first story, so I apologize for any rookie mistakes...
Well - I used to work at the register of a very large convenience store in my homecountry - Denmark.
On a very busy day i'm scanning people's things and receiving money as usual. I have just finished scanning a woman's things and ask her for the payment. The amount is 501.50 kr. (a little less than $100)
She hands me a 500 kr. note and starts packing her things. Of course I look at her and ask her for the last 1,50 - she looks at me confused, but gives me the coins. All is well I think - so I hand her the receipt, and continue with the next customer in line.
But no - she stops packing her things and asks me for her 500,- change!!! Confused as I am, I tell her - well you just gave me exact payment... Apparently she believes she gave me a 1000,- note, so now I owed her 500,-
And so the tantrum starts. She starts yelling and screaming that I am robbing her of her money, that I am incompetent, and that she definately didn't have a 500,- to begin with - she only had a 1000,- that her husbond had given her...
I kept calm and told her, that all I could do for her was have all my money counted and balanced with the sales I had made that day. Her option was to wait for my manager to do it now or call back the next day. Of course that wasn't good enough, so she kept screaming at me.
At this point the other customers had left my line, so I closed it down and went to the back to hand in my money. It all checked out of course, so I went back to my register. 5 seconds later she is back.
So, you have my money for me? she starts... I tell her no - the yelling and namecalling continues. She called her husbond and demanded that I talked to him!!! why??? Finally I made her go talk to my manager. They later tell me, she tried to make it sound like we were all trying to rob her of her stupid 500,-
the end of this whole thing - an hour of verbal abuse and everything - is that the woman apparantly remembered that she only had a 500,- when she got home (duh) So the next day, I was at work, she had sent me chocolate...
I guess the ending is kind of happy - but still - a sucky day...
