NOTE: I have nothing against foreigners. I believe in diversity. However, the race comes into play in this story, which is why I mention it. Thank you.
There's a Nigerian couple who comes to the store semi-often, and they usually come through my line. They are very condescending and rude every time, and simply can't comprehend that the rules apply to everyone.
I was working the express lane. (A lot of my stories start with that, I've noticed.) And they're bringing in a large order, with many WIC items. I try to point out that they have 30 items (the exact number was 47) and it is a 10 items or less line. They simply glare at me and start piling things on the belt.
I start checking them through and I soon realize they have no idea how WIC works. They argued with me that the card could be swiped instead of inserted, then said it was my fault when it didn't work their way.
They assumed that just since they bought the right items, they could get as much of the items as they wanted whenever. I had to explain to them that they could only get a certain amount each month. (That resulted in many cold returns.)
They realized that they could get another half gallon of milk on their WIC purchase. We are so busy we have no baggers, so I have to call a manager to get the milk for them. EVERY FIFTEEN SECONDS, I hear them say, 'Call someone to get milk for us/when are you going to get the milk for us?' In a very snotty manner.
They didn't help bag for ANY of their groceries, and while I'm doing it, they say:
"We should not have to pay more than ten dollars a day to feed ourselves. It was not like this in Nigeria. You are taking a very long time and I am disappointed in you as a consumer. When is our milk going to get here?"
The woman's husband starts darting from aisle to aisle, looking for our manager. They eventually pay and leave, ranting all the while. My manager comes back with the milk and is as red with anger as I am when she realizes they've left. "I was gonna really let them have it, so it's probably a good thing they're gone..." She grumbles on her way back to the dairy section.
And then the monstrous line behind them chastised me for letting them through. Well, I'd like to see YOU try to deal with them in my position! I didn't see you standing up for me!
*sigh* I really hope my job doesn't turn me racist. I really hope not...
