I was watching a rerun of Still Standing last night and this woman was complaining because the cable chanels were'nt the same as they are at her house (over two hours away) and she wanted her son to call the cable company and get it fixed.

I thought, I wonder if that actually happens.

"Oh, I hated these calls. It got so ridiculous that customers would actually call us when the President of the United States would barge in during a broadcast of their show, wanting us to get rid of him! Come on! "

Hell, I had one old geezer that would call every single time the president would get on and say something he didn't like. Like he thought the third shift switcher at some leaky roofed, two-bit local tv station had a direct line to the Commander In Chief who was waiting for me to call him and give him my two cents.

You know, you joke, but that is not too far from reality. God help you if you are working master control and something cuts into the game shows. God HELP you. Those little old blue haired ladies love that stuff more than life itself. You mess with Family Freaking Feud, and there will be HELL to pay. You'll have to take the phone off the hook.

I don't care what it is...be it the President or breaking news about the war (I worked TV during the Gulf War) or the riots (LA Riots, too.), do not be anywhere near a phone if anything like Real Life might shave a few seconds off a game show.

RK, I can sympathize I used to work at a community tv station, and our most popular show of the year was the Santa phone-in show. Santa would stay in the studio until we (the little control booth lackeys) had phoned back EVERY child whose parents had phoned in.

Well, one year, poor Santa ate a bad burrito and spent half the show running to the bathroom to throw up. I was pressed into service as Mrs. Claus, dressed up and tossed on the air to cover. (I hate being on-camera). You would not BELIEVE the number of parents who called to complain that Santa wasn't on the screen and he wasn't phoning their precious angels back RIGHT AWAY. ugh. I got to talk to one little girl on air (the one he had been talking to when he had to make a dash for it) and had to disjointedly explain that something had happened in the factory and Santa had to go check it out.

Felt like reaching through the phone at some of those parents later on though (after I was off the air, I was one of the people they got to call back all the families that had called in).

I think I can remember when the UK had two channels. I definitely remember going from three to four, and the outrage and uncertainty about that was immense. These days, there are so many they diluted the talent available.

I find it very interesting what happens when you measure a person by what they prioritize most in life.

I just can't fathom how people would get so pissed at off at missing ONE NIGHT of Wheel of Fortune. Isn't that show on FIVE times a week??

If you've ever been asked for your ID and you show them your belt buckle, you might be a Redneck.

I see we have another Foxworthy fan.

I guess I also should mention the issues with the on-demand services. Ugh! When people can't access those, they of course call in raising hell about that, as if we can just fix it right over the phone. Do these same people call Blockbuster when they're out of copies of "Superman Returns" or any other videos that are hot releases? I think not.

The only reason I get mad when my internet slows or my Ondemand doesn't work is because I'm not paying $120some or more a month to have slow internet and willynilly cable. I swore off the dish because of willynilly reception and service. Now that I pay the entire cable bill, that TV is on from the second I get home until the second I leave for work. The laptop stays on too. I dont mean to be OCD or anal but I went too long without internet after my roomate stole the computer, I won't go without again lol.

I've thrown fits when Days and Passions have been interrupted by Tom Brokaw and what'shisfacedouchebag........I know it's breaking news.......but these soaps are all I have. I never called the cable company, I'm smart enough to realize it's beyond their control......

I'm not the angry bitch that calls up the cable company to throw a tirade of Hitler proportions. That'd be my roomate.
