Unfortunately laws targeting a specific group are unconstitutional, and therefore must apply to all. In Telecommunications, we are federally regulated, so we have absolutely no breathing room on the matter. Non-federally regulated businesses are required, as I mentioned, for provincial Consumer and Corporate Affairs Ministries.
I also made it clear that you are NEVER required to give personally identifiable information. This is why employee numbers or pseudonymns are acceptable. For small business, simple descriptions are adequate. The policy is there so the employer can identify you, not anyone else.
I am not saying what you are doing is wrong, or what you have done. As employees we must bow to policies established by our employers. All I wanted to do was clarify that the twatwaffle customonster you had was partially correct. The SC was just completely misguided in demanding personally identifiable information. I volunteer driving the streetcar attraction here, and my "boss" has a similar policy. The only thing we are required to give out to anyone, including law enforcement, is our badge number. At the call center, I use a pseudonymn. My wife, at her job, is usually referred to as the "tall, hot one"
