  • Most pointless complaint yet.

Or - I really won't be worrying what my manager makes of this one.

Apparently someone wants to complain to the manager about me. He's saying that I made a phone call yesterday and that because of this he lost a large amount of money that was taken from his bank account.

The problem with this allegation is that while I did see him yesterday (a) I didn't make a phone call, (b) he tried to make me make the phone call for him but I kept refusing, (c) the money was taken back out of the account on the same day it was paid in, (d) the money was taken out before I saw him.

I don't know whether he is making the complaint to the manager but I hope he does. I'd love to see my manager have to deal with that.

It looks like we helped him try and sort out some hideous mess that's been going on for 7 months - he saw a coworker and then the specialist casework less than 2 weeks ago. They started work on his case.

He came in yesterday and saw me. He was claiming he got some money but "not enough" (technically correct, he would be entitled to more than the amount in question, but if we'd got him that much in less than 2 weeks his attitude was really really unreasonable). I refused to deal with it as the paperwork regarding the payment hadn't arrived yet (postal strike) and because the caseworker deals with the issue from start to finish and she was back today (works 4 days a week). He was really difficult and got very angry I wouldn't phone for him. I'd explain all the reasons why not and he'd say "but you can still make a quick call for me". Grrr.

What I didn't know is that he returned in the afternoon, bansheeing up the waiting room, yelling at the receptionist (good receptionist). I'm suprised someone didn't tell me but I think they thought he was upset about the caseworker (because my records weren't on the system yet). The receptionist did however point out that we couldn't have possibly led to the money being taken back because it went back out of the account almost instantly.

Today the caseworker phoned him and he went off at her, screaming that I'd phoned and they'd taken him money away. He wouldn't talk to her and started demanding the manager (who doesn't normally take such calls - you can complain to him but you have to write). In the course of this call she also discovered than while he'd told me he hadn't had any paperwork about the issue he had in fact received something asking him to provide information needed before any money could be sent. He had ignored it.

Part of the problem seems to be that the bank statement records the place that the transfer back originated. The place name has about 6 letters in common with our organisation and he is convinced therefore that we did it. Pointing out that it isn't actually our name and this makes no sense makes no difference.

Not that it matters but the actual issue is almost certainly some sort of problem with the banking system. The organisation concerned couldn't have just taken the money otherwise, it must be a mistaken transfer of some kind that bounced back.

I think I'll refuse to see him if he comes back. Don't normally refuse to see people who complain - it's often just a mismatch of expectations ("She didn't do enough"). But this guy is out and out lying about me.

My favourite complaint about me is still a letter which included "Victoria leaves a bad tast [sic] in the mouth".

They wouldn't let me write back and say "Don't bite Victoria then".

Could you have responded that you are an acquired taste?
