This one happened yesterday. I didn't get around to posting this yesterday, as after I was done with work, I went out to the casino and to have a few drinks to (hopefully) forget about this loser. Yes, he was the only loser that I had last night. Everyone else was quite pleasant, considering the time of year. And I apologize, for a couple of the direct quotes that are going to be in here have some bad words in them. Sorry in advance.
I had huge lines all day, and the CSM's were calling backup all day. I had FINALLY got through my line, and was enjoying my small break in customers, when this guy shows up. He has a jug of oil, a car battery, and something else I can't remember.
I ring up everything, and total it out. The guy tells me to "take the five off this." It's his EBT card (food stamps/cash from the state or federal government card (I don't know which government its from, sorry)). So I go ahead and do that, and he puts in his pin number and everything, and that is just fine. I tell him the total for the rest, and he pulls out his stash of 100 dollar bills, and pays with one of them. (On a side note, it's always bugged me when people supposedly on welfare have more money than I do, and I'm working; they're not)
So my drawer is open, and I'm trying to hand him the change. He asks me if I charged him the $5 core charge for the battery. (I should mention here that I saw the old battery in the cart; I can't do returns at my register. I assumed he would go there after and get the $5 back at the service desk) I told him that the only way I could have taken the $5 off was if he brought the old battery back first, and they service desk would have given him a paper to show me (that's the only way I know that they DID bring another battery back, otherwise, they'd get $5 off without doing anything; it's my (and the store's) way of making sure)
After I tell him that, he starts saying, "What kind of shit are you doing to me? I should have went to the fucking auto parts store down the street"
I didn't say anything at that point. He asks me if I can do the return at my register (I was thinking, "didn't I already tell you that?") and I went through the process again, explaining that I can't do returns at my register.
Then he asks me if there's a long line at the service desk. I try to look, but there is a barrier that blocks my view. I said I didn't think there was, but I can't be certain, as there is a barrier in my view. Then he talks about how he's "in a hurry and can't be bothered with this shit"
Then he goes on to say that if there is a long line at the service desk, he'll just take his money back now and go somewhere else. You don't know how happy I was to tell him (yet again) that I can't do returns at my register, and he'd have to go to the service desk anyway - to get his money back for the things he just bought, or to get the $5 back for the old battery.
He walked off, mumbling about how I "put him through so much shit to get a fucking $5 core charge removed"
Oh well.
I was getting annoyed because I told him at least twice about how I couldn't give him the $5 core charge off without him bringing the other one back first. I told him explicitly that the service desk would be happy to give him the $5 back, as they could could do the returns. And there were at least 3 instances where I had to tell him I couldn't do returns at my register.
Why do I always get all the slow, angry old men?
