but they usually except this answer and ask for the address of the nearest veterinarian.
I do not understand the concept of getting a pet without having a vet lined up.
My cats have to be shut out of the room because the boy likes to get into the windowsill, which is right behind my parents' heads. It's not really wide enough for him to walk on, but that doesn't stop him from trying. There's also vertical blinds and he gets them swinging and slapping into each other.

You get two kinds of kitty-droolers. You've got the life-long droolers who get so happy and comfortable, that they just drool away any time that they would also be knitting. Then you've got the old-age droolers who only start later in life when their teeth start wearing down a bit.
Our old cat drools, and always has. Thankfully, she doesn't drool heavily. It's kind of nasty to find a glob of cat drool on your pants when you weren't expecting it.
McGriff will not be ignored either. He was entirely hand-raised, and acts pretty humanlike at times...dare I say more human than some humans I've seen.
I've had some of those.
My favorite of the Cannot Be Ignored, however, are the kitties who have definite ideas about when they should be attended to and who will prance up to lay across your hands to announce that it is now their time. I've had cats lay on my books while I was trying to read, I've had them flop onto my keyboard, and in one case, one cat thought it would be a good idea to clear the trays of seed beads from my lap so she could take up residence. Luckily for her health, I spotted her coming and redirected her needy attention to one of the other [strike]humans[/strike] servants in the room.

When I first brought Kitty home, he wasn't too happy about being an inside cat. Up until then, he had full use of the farm. But, after seeing the neighbor's large dog, and how many cars drive by...he soon got used to the idea. Took a bit longer to get him to use the litterbox. At one point, he was doing his business in any cardboard box. Annoying as hell! But, after talking with some cat people, I found out what was wrong. Turns out he didn't like the brand of cat litter I was using...
He and Snow were actually pretty good about not pouncing on me at night. Both knew that they were only allowed to sleep on their blankies, the couch, or the beat-up recliner. Kitty only came into my bedroom once--he reached up, put his paw on my shoulder...and was trying to tell me he was dying Snow would get into bed, but just so she could see the birds outside.
But, Sally and Baxter *will* pounce on me while I'm trying to sleep. Sally has been known to burrow under, or actually *steal* the covers! Baxter doesn't do that, but he will walk all over the bed, and has nommed on my ears more than once. Imagine my surprise when I feel whiskers, and then CHOMP! After that, he gets chased out. But, I can't close the door--if I do, he'll sit outside and either scratch the hell out of the door, or whine the entire night Most mornings, one or both kitties are in bed when I awaken

My cats both hang out on or near the bed at night -- their prior owner from a few years back (who had to move but was not allowed to bring them) did so, so they got used to it quickly at my place. Oddly enough, one of them ("aggro cat") just LOVES to sleep next to my feet, despite the number of times she's unexpectedly gone flying when I move around in my sleep and don't know exactly where she is...>_> The other ("timid cat") likes to sleep either on my big ol' clock radio or under the covers, sometimes even on my arm.
My favorite was the very first night I had them...The timid one had yet to come out from under the bed, the aggro one had yet to settle down, but the (now late, sadly) siamese had just sorta vanished into the aether during that first day. I went to bed, turned out the lights, and head/felt a *THUMP* 2 minutes later. It was the siamese, who was the first to figure out that "dark = safe to hop up on bed". I ended up cuddling and petting him for two hours and made an instant friend before I zonked out ^_^
