*Definitely not the worst SC I've ever dealt with, just felt like sharing this*

Earlier this morning, I was making some additions to the church's weekly bulletin, when some woman called asking to speak to the office manager. Technically this would be me, but as she didn't identify herself and I didn't recognize her voice, I said "That person's not in right now, can I take a message?". The woman responded with "NO!" (in a really snippy tone), and immediately hung up.

No idea what this woman's problem was or what she was calling about, only that she sounded like she was in her 50's at least, and seemed really irritated at being asked to leave a message.

Could be she was trying to sell you something. I'm surprised she didn't ask for the manager's "assistant".
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

Yeah, I'm rather leaning toward the idea that this woman had been intending to make a sales pitch........her response just struck me as being odd because most telemarketers would say something like "That's ok, I'll just try back later.", or "Do you know when would be a better time to reach that person?".

Sounds more like she was calling to bitch about a mistake or something she didn't approve of. I've worked for a few church offices, and she sounded more like a disgruntled, holier-than-thou parishioner than a salesperson

She was too shocked and appalled that people at the church dare do anything other than wait by the phone for calls to have a response ready. At least, I'm assuming that the attitude towards the pastor would spill out onto the rest of the staff.

Well, if this woman was someone associated with the church, she definitely wasn't one of the members whom I know or am familiar with.....I'm almost wondering if I should mention this to "Pastor Nancy" just in the event that this WAS someone who had a reason to get in touch with church staff.

Nah. If it wasn't important enough to either leave a message with you or take a moment to explain to you why she couldn't leave a message, it's obviously not important enough for you to bother about.
