I don't know if this belongs in here or not, but it's been bothering me.

We have people who call through a relay service in order to try and get account information or do transfers in order to steal money.

These companies are here to help the hearing impaired and people abuse it to try and steal.

They never get away with it, we generally hang up and flag the account in question. But, now I feel like if someone is hearing impaired, we aren't going to trust that it's true enough to help them.

Ugh, why can't people just try and make money an honest way instead of stealing from other people?

You'll be very happy to know that the FCC is now allowing relay companies to crack down on that kind of fraud. One of our members who works as a relay operator enjoys shutting them down:

Not that they won't try to think of new ways to scam the system.

Well, that makes me feel a ton better. Hopefully this will end these scams.

3 of the branches in my region have received two or three calls today.

      That's about 15 this week.

This is one of the main reasons that the FCC now requires that all people attempting to make relay calls be registered.

It's possible that there are some hinky relay offices that aren't following regulations and they're going through those shops, but it should taper off as things settle.

If you have caller ID and the relays are coming through the same number, it's possible that the company doing the relay might be spoken to or reported, as appropriate.
