  • I am not a target sir

I used to be a cashier. This is the incident that happened on my last ever cash shift, and caused me to beg my manager to let me be a health and beauty assistant instead.

SC brings up a package of batteries to my till. It's one of those big 12 packs of AAs.
SC: Could you check how much this is?
    Me: absolutely.
I scan it and tell him the price, which is on sale.
SC: Are the other batteries on sale?
Me: Sorry sir I don't know. I can call someone from the electronics department who handles the batteries to come here and speak with you. I unfortunately haven't been able to go down the battery aisle today to see which ones are on sale.
SC: Well you are fucking useless aren't you?
He then hurls the 12 pack of batteries overhand at my head. Luckily I ducked, or I would quite possibly have gotten a concussion or a huge black eye.
The SC tries to storm off, but lucky for me my manager was standing at the service desk, and saw the whole thing.
Manager: Sir, what did you just do? I am going to have to ask you to leave the store now, you cannot be throwing merchandise at my cashiers.

The guy was escorted out of the store, and I have never seen him again. I had to leave the register and sit down for a moment, as I was shaking like a leaf. I asked my manager that day if I could please never have a cash shift again, as I couldn't handle having things thrown at me.

What a jerk. I'm wondering if there's anything he should have been charged with... (attempted assault or something, as you can see in one of my other threads, i am not a lawyer)

I'm totally with you on that one - not a lawyer either, but that guy should have had more consequences for his actions than just being thrown out of the store.

Usual I am not a layer escape clause.

In the UK I think it would be assault, if it had hit you then one of the Bodily Harm clauses get added.

Oh dear Lord, I knew that was coming!

                **NOT A LAWYER DISCLAIMER**

But I think that there's a charge for an "attempted aggravated assault". If not, I think this could fall under "disorderly conduct".

Pity being a crap human being isn't a criminal offence. You could definitely have gotten him on that one.

Here's a question. If someone assaulted you would an Air Marshall break their cover, or would you still have to wait for the police on the landing?
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

Like......wow! I certainly hope this man does not have children living at home. If he has a short fuse like what you've described, I can only imagine what life as his son or daughter must be like. I would also imagine he does this sort of thing in other stores he doesn't get his way or an immediate answer in. I'm glad to hear he never showed his face in your store again.
