Supplies are tight on certain items in the days leading up to Christmas. As such I am fielding plenty of calls on when we'll be getting a certain game in.
In attempt to help out some of my customers, I started a list of people interested in the game. I told every single person the list NOT official and is NO guarantee they will get a copy of said game. I simply told them that being on the list means that I will call them when we get a shipment of said game, but I've told every single person WE CAN NOT HOLD COPIES. I thought everyone was fine with this.
Evidently I was wrong.
One of my managers got an earful today from some woman who was very upset because she thought that being on my list meant we would hold her a copy of the game when it came in.
Let me restate: I never promised ANYTHING to ANYONE and took the time to educate each customer what the list was and what it wasn't.
I ran into similar problems when the Wii launched. Again I tried to be careful in informing people of what being on the list meant and again they misunderstood. I know I should have learned from the past, but I did try to be even more clear and thorough in my explanation this time around. Unfortunately that old "selective hearing" SC seem to have got me again.
The dumb thing about all of this is the whole reason we don't hold stuff is because half the stuff that gets put on hold never gets picked up and we don't want to tie up perfectly sellable stock in a hold bin until goodness knows when.
I guess there'll be no more lists for me from now on.
