So way back when I was working the floor at a certain chain of stores whose name sounds like the condition of your vegetarian date's meal (hint: all greens
), I was covering for a coworker at the front register. It's the rush hour, and *everybody* needs cigarettes where I worked.
Up comes a customer to buy cigarettes. I ask for his ID. He flashes it at me and then puts it away (as if this ever accomplishes anything anyway). I ask to see it again.
SC: "I don't want to show you my ID."
Me: "In order to sell you these cigarettes, I have to see your ID."
SC: "That's personal information. I don't want you to have my address."
Me: "I don't need your address. I just need to check your birth date."
SC: "I don't want to give you my birth date."
Me: "That's fine, but I'm not legally allowed to sell you these cigarettes until I can verify your age from your ID."
SC walks off.
