I'm glad no one got hurt. I suppose it would have been worse if he also wanted the cigs anyway.

I've been talking with a mutual friend of AdamAnt316 and myself, who is a cop in our hometown. Apparently a gas station in our town was also robbed on the same night, a few hours after AdamAnt316's store was, and the MOs were the same. They didn't catch the bastard that time either....

I'm glad you're okay, Adam, you did the right thing. No amount of money is worth your life.

Are there any cameras or any kind of security setup at your store?

Again, thanks for all of your kind comments. I'm not nearly as freaked out as I was before, and had a nice weekend to take the edge off what happened Friday. About time to consider a new line of employment, though...

Sadly, no. My boss is too much of a cheapskate to have a camera system installed. Hell, he hasn't even paid the phone bill in who-knows-how-long... Hopefully, the cameras at the gas station Dave1982 mentioned got a good look at the scumbag.

            Been there.

I got robbed at knife point on my first week of the night shift at Brooks Pharmacy three years ago. I don't know how I would have handled it if he had a gun but I hope I never find out.
Well, I didn't actually see the gun this guy supposedly had, so I can't be sure exactly how I would've reacted if I had. I just assumed the worst, and gave him the money.

Ah, that's the kicker. After I gave him the money, he demanded a pack of cigarettes anyway...

Am I the only one who has this horrible image in mind of a customer witnessing the robbery and then complaining that you couldn't make change (y'know, because someone just stole all your small bills)... ?

ugh, and the sc saying, "I know you have an extra stash of money to use when you get robbed."

Eek, he stayed for cigs? I would be worried sick that he would get pissed at some point (like you get the reds, not the lights) and start shooting.

Update: After much thought, I have decided that it's about time I stopped working there. It may be risky to do in this sort of economy, but with the conditions at the store, I feel that working there would be far, far riskier. In the morning, I intend to call my boss (using his cell phone, since the store line STILL doesn't work ), tell him my feelings, and that I'll work there another week or two if he needs me to train my replacement; otherwise, I'm just going to collect my final paycheck, and be done with them.

I can certainly understand your feelings; a robbery is bound to shake you up. You might want to apply to some temporary agencies, as many as you can. They can usually supply you with something every week, even if only a one-day job, until you can find something permanent.

                    Good luck!

                      Field of Dreams, anyone?

                      "What's that?"
                      "That's a gun."
                      "Oh yeah? Lemme see it."
"I'm not gonna show you my gun!"

"I'm gonna hit you with this crowbar until you go away."

That is exactly what you're supposed to do. You don't play hero, you don't act smart, you just give them what they want.

The worse part for me was actually the night after when I showed up for work, and the assistant manager made a comment. "I was looking at the camera angle and the way he held the knife, I don't think he would have hurt you if you refused."

"I'll tell you what. Next time I'll ask." That was my exact reply.

The bottom line is if you were robbed and you're alive then everything went the way it was supposed to. And I agree with you not sticking around if your boss doesn't think this is a wake up call to stop being a cheap skate and get some basic security put in.

Thanks for the encouragement. I went to my boss, told him my feelings, and he understood. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like things are going to change anytime soon. In fact, things seem to be getting worse there, as he's let some other bills lapse as well, and as of the last time I was in there, they'd been stripped of the ability to sell lottery tickets. That's made things much slower than usual, and I have a feeling that the store won't be around a whole lot longer.

Yeah, I'm glad everything worked out. We Optigan players need to stick together, and keep these goofy beasts running. Reminds me, now that I have some time in between jobs, maybe I can finally get around to taking it apart, and fix it's many faults...

                              This just in...

Looks like they caught the scumbag!

Of course, this makes me wonder whether or not they'd have caught the guy if he hadn't robbed another store, which happened to have surveillance equipment...

                              Hope he enjoyed those smokes...
