I was hoping to be one of the many consumers out buying cool stuff with my cash but alas it looks like I have to use it to pay for a move to another apartment instead...
Hubs and I will both be buying new eyeglasses with the tax refund.

I'd love to spend it on all sorts of cool stuff too, but you and I have our priorities in order.

I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I have to buy a new laptop, but i, too, will be getting an eye exam, new glasses, etc, as well.

And I'm also someone who used Turbo Tax online, and got my refund in about a week. Fastest that's ever happened, but then that's the earliest I've ever done my taxes as well.

Yeah, I would buy a number of things... but...

I have to sell my house because of my divorce and am looking for an apartment (found one I do like) and I have to get my cat fixed, especially because of the move.

And I have other bills... sigh.

You're goal should be to get as small a refund as possible. If you're getting a huge refund, you're just letting the government use YOUR money for free. I'll actually owe a couple hundred to federal and a little bit to State.

You know, all this "what I'm doing with my refund" stuff is really off topic. If someone doesn't start talking about SC's soon, I'll just split the thread and ye can all banter to your heart's content.

Unless I'm mistaken, the cost of the tax software is deductible, too, if you itemize.
Correct. However that is under Miscellaneous Deductions which must total more than 2% of your income to be deductible. The price of tax software is considered a 'preparation fee'.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

The libraries have volutneers using our rooms to give tax help..."help" being that the volunteers do all the work.

Luckiliy our library isn't doing it this year (or for the past 3 years) but hopefully the idiots don't come to us and ask how to do it online.

Though now I have to remember which forms we don't have. I forgot 1099s are ones you get from the IRS. I told a person we had them. Opps.

Then when we don't have a form and tell people to go to the IRS online and get it, they think they don't have to pay for the print out since we are suppose to supply the forms.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Had a couple of more yesterday paying with $100s and numerous others looking for PS3s and Wiis that we didn't have.

I also had not one, but TWO people pay for purchases under $20 with Franklins. :

I did my taxes online through the Turbo Tax Freedom edition 2 weeks ago (Wednesday) and got my money back on the following Thursday, but I do it every year. As soon as I get my W-2 I get cracking so I can get the money back and pay off a chunk of Christmas debt.
Turbo Tax wanted me to pay a $30 "Refund Processing fee" in addition to $30 for filing my state taxes. I went to H+R Block's free online e-file and only paid $10 for state with no stinkin "Refund Processing fee". I think I'll be staying with them.

Wow, people are gettng their taxes finished and refunds in already? Maybe I'm just slow. lol
I just got my refund in the bank two days ago . . . my W-2 form arrived at work with my last paycheck (which was a week ago Wednesday) and I e-filed the same day using TaxSimple (and they've updated their software this year and have actually made it easier to do. Took me 15 minutes to have mine ready to transmit.) I also use them for filing my state tax return, which only cost now $9.95. So that despot should hit the bank within 2-3 weeks, depending on how fast my state is this year . . . we'll see.

Usually, with Direct Deposit, the federal refund will hit 2 weeks to the day you file, but this year mine only took 8 days.
