Anyway, as I served customers through the que one customer with a rather lengthy transaction appeared. So I began scanning asked my questions: Would you like any stamps or top-ups today? Would you like a bag? if yes would you like a bag for life? And eventually will you be paying by card or cash? She said she wanted bags and payment by card so i gave her 3 of our large bags which should have been more than adequate and told her what it totalled. She continued to pack so i repeated myself and asked kindly for her to please insert her card into the reader.
She turned round at this point and said "You are completely useless you. No help at all you! Why can't you pack?" As frankly its not my job and customers moan if I pack. However, during card transactions when they are entering there pin number I will put there stuff into there bags so theyc an not say I looked at the chip and pin to take there pin. During a card transaction it is my duty to monitor what is happening with my till as occasionally errors do occur especially on a system as new as ours! However she would not accept this. i explained quite clearly that I wil help with packing if asked to her response to this greatly angered me "That is nog ood now. you would be better curling up in that corner and dieing." I was not hurt just angered. And after this she had a cheek toc ome back to me and tell me that the bags were inadequate as they advertised the company!
Why do people believe that Customer Service Assistants particularly cashiers are the punching bags? We carry out our duties to company policy and people just don't get it. We are the lowest of the low in a firm. We can't do magic to help them. They are not worth being disciplined for. Especially since a chimp can be trained in my job.
