I live in Canada, and we too have the kind of pension you earn through your years of work wherever, however being over 65 automatically qualifies you to receive "old age pension", whether you worked or not (my grandmothers, on both sides of my family, receive this pension though they never held jobs), and I am 99% sure it's government funded.
Ah, I see. I was unaware of the differeneces in social programs. Thanks for the clarification.
The Rich keep getting richer because they keep doing what it was that made them rich. Ditto the Poor.

I hate listening to people complaining about the economy when they have no idea how the economy works. But I'm studying to be an economist, so unfortunately I pick up on it instead of tuning it out like I used to.
I was stuck in line behind someone once who hated the self-checkouts because they stole jobs away from cashiers, and the least that the store could do was give you a discount because they were making more money off of you by not having to pay a cashier an hourly wage. I was mentally banging my head against the candy rack the whole time, thinking, "That's not even close to how it works!"
This kids in the work force thing... It took me a while to work out the insane troll logic, and when I did I could almost see how the senior wasn't completely insane. But then I remembered I exist in the real world, where prices go up when the economy is in a downturn no matter who is employed.
Each one of us has a special place just like the Evergreen Forest. Enchanting, sparkling, and perfect. And, like the flowers that bloom there... fragile.
We get the cranky old seniors who come in and moan if the air pump is out of order. The way some of them act, you'd think I personally took an axe to the damn thing. -.- They go, "Now I have to go all that way down the road to Other Petrol Station and pay to use theirs!"
IT'S ONLY 20P!!! Argh. -.- The way they talk, you'd think that Other Petrol Station's air pump was about ten million pounds to use, and that we were deliberately damaging our free air pump in order to deprive them of their pension.

...and I'm sure the guy drove up in an expensive car of some sort. Seriously, it's not that much. Open your wallet, you cheap bastard!
I'm so tired of the "limited income" excuse. For example, my paternal grandmother goes on constantly about how everything is expensive, and that she has no money. Everything, from breakfast cereal to cable TV to newspapers is "too expensive"

And the kicker? It was probably one of the crusty old gits who damaged the bloody air pump in the first place. -.- It has an extendable hose, that you can lock into place by giving it a tug so if you drop it while pumping your tires, it won't whip back. The cranky old people often forget to unlock the hose so it'll whip back after they're done; so it ends up lying on the road, ready to be driven over and damaged. X_x

It suddenly occurs to me that having a seperate and not equal price for seniors is a form of age discrimination. How come everyone don't get to pay senior prices?
Let's all descend upon some other theatre and be SCs for a day.
I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Maybe then the Senior Days at the swamp would go away forever.

"I shouldn't have to pay this much for coffee or a movie just to keep you kids employed."
"But that's the real beauty of this system ma'am! If the theater or fast food place employed full time adult workers in the position I'm filling, your ticket or coffee would be three times the price........

SOC:how this would never happen if minimum wage hadn't gone up. The month before, minmum wage had climbed from $8.10 to $8.60/h.
Well actually....
It is a slight contributor to it.
Minimum wage increases inflation and produces more unemployment. It is a price floor that is set so that people do not get underpaid at the expense of inflation risk and increased unemployment. It creates a surplus of workers (assuming that the floor is above the market wage equilibrium point of supply and demand, which it usually is) willing to work for that minimum wage. Too many workers, too little jobs. It's an unfortunate result of the system.
It is not the main factor in the increase in price, but I am sure it contributes at least a little bit.
Let's not forget that a minimum wage increase also makes the overhead costs go higher - meaning that it is a visible increase against the profit margin - so the business has to either sell more, reduce the number of employees, take the loss, or raise prices to keep the shareholders/owners happy.
