  • Some people shouldn't breed

A friend of mine works at a themed store in the mall that sells collectors items exclusively, there are a few action figures near the front of the store, but most of the items for sale are considered collectibles and are not intended for children. [Example: There is a figure of Princess Leia that sells for $1000, definitely not a child's toy].

It was nearing the end of the day when a man came in with his very young son. After walking the kid in past the counter, the man asked if he could leave his son in the store and do his own shopping next door.

MF [My friend]: I'm sorry, we don't allow children to be left unattended in the store.
SC [Sucky man]: How old would he need to be to be on his own?
MF: Children under 14 need to have an adult with them at all times in the store.
SC: I don't get it! This is a toy store. You mean my kid can't be in a toy store?
MF: We aren't babysitters and we don't want to have to watch your child. There is a bench outside. You could sit on the bench and keep an eye on him.

The man said he'd wait outside and left his son in the store. The boy spent two hours looking at items, asking them to be removed from their glass cases, then changing his mind about wanting them. He had thoroughly annoyed all of the staff and several customers, myself included.
Five minutes before the store closed, the child finally bought the cheapest item in the store. He then asked to borrow my cell phone so he could call his dad to come back to the mall to pick him up.

The man had not only left the store, he'd left the mall and had gone all the way to the far side of town. The store's manager took the kid to the security office to wait for his father. I got a call from my friend after I went home informing me that it took an hour before anyone came to get the kid.

    Sucky customer, sucky dad.

Last night, when I was running around filling stuff off the truck, I noticed a little girl running around with no parents seemingly in sight, until somebody called out to her from the optical department.

Then the girl was screwing around in makeup, opening up tubes of lipstick and putting it on her mouth. We had to go round up all the tubes she had opened and applied to her face and have them marked defective. Of course, no word about this from the parents in optical.

Then later on I noticed this girl wandering around the back of the store, with the parents no place to be found AGAIN. Somebody could've grabbed the kid and been out the door and mommy and daddy would never have known.

My mother used to panic if I went around a corner and she lost site of me. I don't understand how people can just leave their kids and not care.

I was with you until there. He shouldnt have left the kid alone there.. period. After 30 minutes when it was apparent that there was no parent around, cops would've been called.

Next time tell your friend to not give them the option.

I'm with you there. I didn't even try to hide my disgust. The man was just vile.

I'm just tasteless enough to put signs in my store that tell the story of Adam Walsh, who was abducted from a shopping mall when he was 6 years old. He was later found...or...HIS HEAD was later found in a river.

The crime was thought to have been committed by Ottis Toole, but guess who else was in the mall that day?

              Jeff Dahmer.

If I ever have kids I'll let that be a lesson, they better stick close or somebody just might pick them up. You never know who's in the mall with you.

They should have called the cops. Isn't that something CPS should be aware of?

What's scary is how Adam Walsh's abduction and murder occurred in my state. I'd haul ass if I ever saw Jeffrey Dahmer...that guy is beyond evil. When I was a kid, my mom made sure that me and my sisters stayed with her and the same with our dad whenever we went out. I just don't understand how some of these parents these days just leave their kids to their own devices in the store and think nothing of it.

I go 15, although I don't have the number for Crisis Care on speed dial. (Crisis Care in Australia is the rough equivelent of CPS in the US)

Was evil. He was murdered in prison quite a few years ago.

And yeah, the dad in the story is an irresponsible ass hat.

                        Put up a sign

Unattended children will be given a bag of pixie stix, a double espresso, a puppy, and the loudest toy we can find.

uh, yeah, that's a clear case of needing to call the police for child abandonment. He left the building, all bets are off.

I figured I might try to surprise you guys, but my attempt is probably in vein.

One of my best girlfriends works at the local YMCA in the daycare section. It closes at 6.

If no one picks up their kid by 6:30, they have to call Child Services, per policy.

My friend has said that it's becoming alarming how many times one of them has to call CPS, then the parents, then end up staying late until SOMEONE gets the kid.

How do you forget your fucking kid? Home Alone was a damn movie.
