    For anything to really happen, you'd have to prove damages somehow. Easy enough if you get fired, or get in trouble at work over it (cost future raises, damaged reputation), but if the workplace blows the looney off, you haven't been damaged. Except maybe being out a few brain cells.
    I did a bit of research because I was curious. Slander, by definition, is the act of publicly speaking an injurious statement about another party when the speaker knows the statement is false. You can sue the person only in the event that the statement resulted in financial or personal loss for you. Same thing with libel, which deals with written statements.

    So yes, hopefully the supervisors will blow the person off or better yet, tell them off for making a false statement. But in the unlikely event that you were written up, terminated, or even transferred to another job you would probably have a case.
