Do you think they might have been counterfeit 20s?
I bet they were quick changers.

My grandfather was notorious for big bills, but only carrying them.

He would open his wallet and there would be at least 5 $100's, 2 $50's, 5 $20's, and any smattering of $10's, $5's and $1's.

He loved carrying money around for some reason. Granted he paid cash for everything, but my Dad and Aunt said it only started as got older. He used to carry around enough to buy lunch every day at work.

From what we understand he'd cash his social security check and carry the cash around. At the end of the month he'd be down some money but still had over $1000 in his wallet.

But he would only use the big bills for big purchases. And he'd always ask if they could break a $100 or $50, which I now do if I happen to have a big bill (my aunt gives me a $100 bill every Christmas)

Had an odd one the other night... 9:30 or so, some teen-looking guys come into the store and walk right up to me: "Can I trade you some twenties for a hundred?"
"That'd be no there, junior. I don't carry hundreds in my cash drawer."
Manager for the night comes walking up, and teen repeats question to her.
"I've already pulled all the large bills, so, no."
This is also a trick used by thieves. First they ask if they can get large bills and as soon as they find out that you HAVE them, out comes a gun and the demand for the cash.
"All I've ever learned from love was how to shoot somebody who out-drew ya"
