I've only done one real portrait, a Prismacolor one of my mother and her cat. It was NOT an easy job, but it came out really well. I charge a MINIMUM of $80 for a single character drawing, 8x10, so I think your prices are pretty low! (no, I didn't charge my mom!!)

I do mostly 'furries' and fantasy characters, at conventions, so I know from dealing with the public when it comes to commissioning art!
Yes, I take requests...but not for free.
Yes, I'll draw a second character...but it costs half again my regular price.
Art takes TIME to do...you'll get it when it's done.

When it comes to portraits, I think working from photos is so much better than from life. I don't like staring at someone all the time I'm drawing.

I looked at your gallery...I like your stuff! Nice technique! Very soft colors. I liked the one with dad and baby especially.
I'm on DA too...look me up sometime! (user name: sandyschreiber)
    I no longer fear HELL.
    I work in RETAIL.

Although my "day job" has nothing to do with customers, I make a little money on the side, painting portraits. The actual customers are generally quite nice, but I've collected a few peeves, anyway, mostly from people who decided not to be customers after all:
I clicked your DA link, too, and wow, I'd definitely pay 40 bucks for those paintings. They are gorgeous. In fact, I may keep you in mind a few years down the road for a wedding painting. Most painters wouldn't do the seemingly silly modifications I'd want done to it.
Those who are loudest about their qualifications, tend to have the least merit to their claims.

I should have hired you to do my most recent book's cover art. The artist I've hired is . . . rather chaotic and has taken over a month to do a simple watercolor picture.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

I really love the way you do your colors! I'm in the saving up process right now for more character art and I have a story or two I'm going to get illustrated. it will be awhile since I want to pay for good work, but I'd like to put you on my list if that's ok.
