Also did my laundry there, of course... the apartment house where I lived at the time had a couple of coin-op washers and a dryer in the basement, but the dryer exhausted into the courtyard between the buildings, and it made such a racket, with this horrible moaning noise reverberating around that brick courtyard, that I couldn't sleep while it was running (I worked nights then). I did complain to the building super, and she said that she'd complained to the manufacturer herself, only to be told that that level of noise is normal for that model, which both she and I disbelieved, but they wouldn't do anything about it. In any case I would rather load up the car and go to the laundromat a mile away rather than run that dryer.
(There were a couple that were closer, but this was a much nicer place, clean, brightly lit, with plenty of machines including some huge ones that you could put your whole house in, tables to fold your clothes on, etc. It was worth the trip. Now I live in a house I have my own machines, so I don't go there anymore unless I have to wash blankets or something that needs the huge machine.)
