ThirdGenRetail, I suspect you're a Terry Pratchett fan.

My sons name is Logan. Totally not named after Wolverine. Really. He's named after his godfather. Once we'd decided on the name, everybody asked me if we were X-Men fans. Didn't realize what we'd done but we still loved the name.

My daughter's name is going to be Mychal Diana Rose. She's due in September. Diana's my grandmother's name, also happens to be the name of the goddess of the hunt. Mychal is biblical, hehehe, I'm sure some people know who she was. Rose was my sons idea, he's been telling people all about her for the last 3 years.

There are certain names that are unmistakable and thus difficult to defend. My name was difficult to spell when I was growing up but I loved it. I loved the story behind it and everything. My son loves his name but spent several months informing us that we'd spelled his name wrong.

I lucked out. I have a common name. Though it didn't get much use during my early years. My family has pretty much used a nickname given to me when I was a kid;I still use it with the family. Schoolwise, I used the English variant-only let a few people get away with using my "paper" name. Usually teachers I had a lot of respect for, or girls who thought my legal name was "prettier."

Though I did lie and say I was named after an actor my mom liked, rather than my father. Mainly because when I was a kid, I had issues with bearing my dad's name. That said, I eventually came to see that while I may have been named after the man, there was no reason to be ashamed of my name, that I was my own man.

A girl I've worked with is named April. Middle name--May...
You know? Daisy Duck had nieces, much like Donald has nephews... their names? April, May, and June. No, seriously.

Considering in the Mortal Kombat Universe, Raiden IS the the god of thunder. So even if he can claim "not named after a game character, honest!", he still doesn't have much of a solid footing there.
To be fair, it depends on how the pronounce it, too. "RAY-den" is what MK calls the name; there is no defense if they say it that way. Everyone else says it "RYE-den/RAI-den"

I'd like to give my kids cool names, but my fiance is pretty against "unique" names. He's named Braynard Hassel and HATES his name to the point he even uses his nickname professionally. So no crazy names for my kids.

I used to work with a girl named Galadriel. She usually went by Gally because she couldn't stand the questioning and teasing. I finally had to ask her what the name was short for because I just couldn't figure it out...then I thought she had the coolest name EVER!
