You could, in theory, send a First-Class letter to

    Msfghog GK[refjf
    123 Main St Cir Dr
    Nuu York, NY 00000-0000

...and have a better than even chance of it being delivered as long as the ZIP code is correct.
True, but why make things more difficult than they need to be? Call me fussy, but I prefer to keep on good terms with my PO, so I type out the address carefully and use the USPS Zip Code Lookup to be sure it's correct. You'd be amazed at how many people can't spell their street or city names, or use the wrong state abbreviation (thinking the abbreviation for Arizona is AR, or using "O" for Ohio, etc.)

That, and I've had customers who lived on 1st Street get their packages delivered to 1st Avenue and never receive their stuff, the Zip +4 cuts down on that very nicely.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

It had the correct German address on it. But somehow it got rerouted to Sydney, Australia first, before it reached me in Germany. I guess some guy in the postal office had a rather uh... limited knowledge about the world.
      Austria, Australia... same thing!

but...but... Austria is another, entirely separate country

        man, postal services suck

(No offense to any who work in the postal industry, heck I've worked there around christmas to earn some extra cash and know how hard you all work, but seriously, all the bosses are concerned about is figures figures figures, who cares if it gets to the right place, just get it somewhere and move onto the next one)

I once bought something off ebay; instead of using the Paypal-supplied address, they plugged my campus address into the USPS web site. It spit back a zip code that was a couple miles away (street, city and state were all correct). Didn't show up after a month, I contacted the seller who said he could reship (and I could keep the first one if it ever showed up)

The second package using the Paypal address did arrive, the original one popped up a month later. Just for the hell of it I googled the address he used...that area of town has no [streetname] Drive; there are two names that are close, but the numbering doesn't go anywhere near as high as the real address. Every once in awhile I'll still scratch my head over that one.

Nah, it's part of that whole "being human and fallible" thing we have to put up with.

Hell, my company once had a package that was supposed to go UPS Red (overnight) from southern California to northern California. Someone at the UPS facility accidentally routed the shipping 'crate' thing through Ireland.

Sounds like it would have been faster to toss it in the back of your car and drive it!
Any day you're looking down at the dirt instead of up at the dirt is a good day.

By the time it got done with it's vacation, it would have!

Particularly since UPS Ground service from here to there normally only takes one day, anyway.

For cash returns at <Random Craft Store>, we have to tell customers to write out their entire city name even if we, the employees and the customers, know what City XYZ in it's shortened form. Unfortunately, head offices won't know what City XYZ is in it's shortened form and will throw fits if it's not filled out. You won't believe how many times I've had to give the return slip back to the customer to fill out the ENTIRE city name, even if they say "Well, we both know it's City XYZ". Response? "Yea, but the head office doesn't".

Sometimes you do, in fact, need the entire address regardless of the reasons to not give it out.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

You mean like how long it took me when I was little to figure out that T or C and Truth or Consequences were the same town?

What do you mean I can't send this UPS Ground to Oahu?
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
